The moment Denver heard the bone-chilling voice of his grandfather, a chill ran down his spine as all of his courage poofed away like mist.
He turned around and walked towards the garden slowly slowly. He smiled and said, "Hey, Gramps, How are you doing?"
"How would an old man who has a grandson like you would do?" Grandpa Max asked while giving a side glance at Denver.
"Of course, that old man will be happy and thank the gods for giving such a grandson to him." Denver smiled and said as he stood beside Lex.
Grandpa Max looked around and said, "I wonder where my Iron stick went?"
"Hey! Hey! The iron stick is out of the syllabus." Denver hid behind Lex and said.
"Shut up!" Grandpa Max glared at Denver and said. Denver put his finger on his lips and instantly turned quiet.
Grandpa Max shook his head and said, "I just don't understand what sins I've committed in my previous life to have a grandson like you and that brute as my granddaughter."
"I'm pretty sure it's this life's sins," Denver mumbled.
"Did you say something?" Grandpa Max asked.
Denver shook his head repeatedly. Grandpa Max snorted but didn't press on that matter. He turned towards the other old man who was sitting on the chair and enjoying the drama with a smile on his face.
"You're really enjoying yourself, aren't you, Old Marvin?" Grandpa Max asked.
Marvin, the other old man, chuckled and said, "And why wouldn't I? You have such a lively family."
Grandpa Max shook his head and said, "The family I don't even get to see every day, you're better in that regard. At least you have your daughter living with you."
Grandpa Max then looked at Denver and said, "Anyways, this is, unfortunately, my own grandson, Denver. You must have met him when he was young."
"Of course, I remember. In your brute of a family, he was the only normal person." Marvin said.
Denver, who was trying to remember where he had heard Marvin's name before, suddenly had his eyes brightened. He looked at Marvin and asked in excitement, "You're Grandpa Marvin!?"
"Haha, so you finally recognise me." Marvin laughed lightly and said.
"Of course I will. You're the only sane person among the friends of Gramps." Denver said.
He then turned towards Lex and said, "Lex, meet Grandpa Marvin. The only normal one among the old man's friends, he's also a retired General. He's cool."
"Brat, your grandfather was also a General, you know." Grandpa Max said in his grumpy tone.
Lex smiled, bowed his head slightly and said, "Hello, Senior. I'm Lexus Rivenhall, I'm sort of grandson of Grandpa Max."
"You're more of a grandson to me than this brat." Grandpa Max scoffed.
"Rivenhall? You don't mean..." Marvin narrowed his eyes and asked.
Lex's smile disappeared, but he didn't say anything. This was the reason he didn't want to have Rivenhall with his name, but it was Elise who demanded to keep it so he was forced to not discard it.
Grandpa Max's face turned solemn, and he nodded at Marvin. Marvin looked at Grandpa Max and also nodded in understanding. Since they didn't want to talk about it, he wouldn't force it.
Denver saw a strange atmosphere and asked Lex, "You wanted to say something to Grandpa, right?"
"Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me," Lex said as he turned to look at Grandpa Max. "I have something important to tell you, old man."
Grandpa Max saw the seriousness in Lex's voice and knew that he wasn't playing any pranks. He said, "Sure, come and sit. Marvin is my brother in arms, so you could trust him."
Lex nodded his head and sat on a different chair. Denver also came and sat beside him.
Lex took a deep breath and said, "Old man, I'm thinking they're back."
Grandpa Max narrowed his eyes and said, "Speak clearly, boy."
"I mean the skull bastards, I'm thinking they're resurfacing," Lex said.
Grandpa Max's eyes narrowed even further as his grip tightened on the chair he was sitting in. He asked, his tone filled with killing intent, "Are you sure?"
Lex shook his head and said, "It's just a guess of mine. While I was on the way here, I met two baldies. They had the same black-red skulls in their keychain."
"Maybe it's just a random keychain?" Denver asked.
Lex looked at Denver with a deadpan look and asked, "You know what those skulls represent, right? Do you think anyone has the gal to actually keep those?"
Denver nodded and then stood up to leave. Lex raised his eyebrows and asked, "What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? Of course, I'm going to see Ely; if what you said is right, then she's definitely not safe out there alone." Denver said as he began to walk away.
Lex sighed and shook his head with a smile tugged on his lips. He asked, "Do you seriously think I would leave Ely in danger? Don't worry, she's in safe hands."
Denver stopped and turned around. He asked, "Are you sure? Like really sure?"
"She is powerful and I've sent Lisa to her, they're in the city so they would be safe," Lex said.
Denver contemplated whether he should go or not, and in the end, he came and sat beside Lex again.
Lex sighed and turned to look at Grandpa Max, who had just finished making a call. He rolled his eyes and said, "You do know that Ely won't like you having your people around her?"
"It's fine. I'll handle her anger, but I can't put her in danger. If those bastards are resurfacing, then they'll definitely go after you two. I'm sure of that. We can't take any risks." Grandpa Max shook his head and said.
"Don't worry, old man. Nothing would happen to Ely. I won't let them come even close to her." Lex smiled and said.
Grandpa Max looked into Lex's eyes and saw nothing but pure confidence. He smiled and nodded.
