Lex thought about his ability and nodded. His ability was mostly related to mental aspects, so it should have been the spiritual energy that he was using.
[You're correct in that regard. Although your ability can also affect your physical body, it still originates from your mental part. Even then, it's a bullshit ability.]
'Welp, according to others, it's a useless ability; that's why they gave it F-Rank.'
[That's because they're idiots, the ability to focus that's a bullshit ability if used well.]
'F-Rank ability—Focus, hmm, it does sound useless.' Lex mused.
[Anyways, I didn't think you would have a second ability and such an OP ability at that.]
'It's not that awesome, I can't even use it unless I'm in a life and death situation.' Lex shook his head and replied. His second ability was a double-edged sword that could even kill him.
There was no guarantee of who'd die in that, or maybe there was, but he didn't know of it. Lex found that more reasonable as he didn't know much about it and couldn't even experiment with it to understand it better.
In his whole life, he had only used his second ability two times, and both times, he was in a situation where his death was almost confirmed. That's why he took the gamble back then and won.
But that still didn't guarantee his win. Maybe in the next one, he would be the one to die.
'Anyways, are you able to understand it?' Lex asked, hoping the system had some answers. If he mastered his second ability, he was sure nobody would be able to defeat him. He would be invincible. That's how powerful his ability was.
[Sorry, host, but it's too strange, and I haven't come across something like that. I can't even understand the energy used in that ability. All I noticed were the traces of death energy in it.]
Lex sighed and dropped the topic. He was fine with his first ability; although it wasn't strong, at least he wouldn't die using it.
'What about the status screen?' Lex asked.
[Working on it. I have to set everything accordingly, so it's taking time.]
'Alright then, anything else?' Lex asked as he entered the big building of the library.
[Hmm, nothing aside from telling you that the plot has started.]
'Plot?'
[Yeah, once someone assimilates with a system, they become the protagonist and have to live in the plot. And I know what you're thinking, so don't worry. When I say plot, it just means things would heat up around you. Nothing more than that.]
Lex raised his eyebrows and swallowed his question back. He then mentally gave a middle finger at the system and said, 'You can take your plot and stick it to your ass.'
[Hmm, I don't think it's possible. Besides, I can't even predict the plot as I did with other hosts; now the system is yours, so it's gonna be fucked up for sure.]
'Yeah, yeah, I'll handle it.' Lex said as he entered the library. He looked at vast rows of high bookshelves and wondered just how many books were here.
But he also noticed that the library was empty. Aside from himself, he could see no one, not even the teacher who was supposed to be in charge of the Library.
He cocked his head in confusion and then shrugged it off. He then walked around the library trying to find something interesting to read, something that could last him till afternoon.
"Falor Eso, what a weird pen name," Lex said as he picked the book. He had read some of his works and found them interesting, so he might as well finish his books.
He took the book as he looked around for tables and found one at the back, he went towards it.
As he arrived near the table, he noticed that another person was already sitting on one of the chairs.
A tall girl with shoulder-length black hair and a slim figure sat there engrossed in a book. She didn't notice Lex's arrival and continued to read the book.
Lex looked at her briefly and contemplated whether he should change the seats. Shaking his head, he went and sat on one of the chairs on the opposite side of the girl.
The noise of the chair being moved finally brought out the girl of her concentration. She looked at Lex and said, "I didn't think someone would be coming to the library today, especially a first year."
She looked at the one golden star that hung on Lex's uniform. It was a small piece and spoke of the student's status.
"Is there something special today? Why is the library empty?" Lex asked.
"Because it's the first day of the academy, it's like this every year. Besides, the library is mostly empty anyway." The girl said.
Lex nodded and read the contents of the book he brought. He said, "I've read this one. I guess I'll have to choose again."
The girl raised her head from the book and looked at the book Lex was carrying. She raised her eyebrows in surprise and asked, "You want to read books by Falor Eso? You have a unique taste."
"Hmm, I know." Lex nodded, even though he wasn't sure why he liked books by this strange author.
"Well, if you want to read more of his book, they're in that third bookshelf, at the top right corner." The girl pointed at one of the bookshelves and said. "I've already completed all of his books, so I know of their location."
"I see," Lex said as he went towards the bookshelf the girl had pointed at. Looking at the top right corner, he found a whole section for only Falor Eso's books.
He picked up one of the books and went back to his seat.
[Want me to make a quest? You can earn some rewards.]
'Nope, don't meddle.'
Lex then sat in his chair and said, looking at the girl, "Thanks for this, senior..."
"Evelyn," The girl, Evelyn said.
"Then, thanks for this, senior Evelyn." Lex smiled and said.
