Carissa watched her go, her smile fading as she picked up her phone again. She needed that DNA test result more than ever. She had to be sure, to have proof, not just for herself but for Angelina too. She dialed David's number once more, hoping against hope that this time, he would answer.
The following day, Carissa sat in the bus, her mind swirling with anxiety and frustration. Clutching the paternity test results in her hand, she dialed the number of David's house telephone, hoping for a response. After a few rings, Mrs. Rita's familiar voice answered.
Carissa sighed with relief. "Hello, Mrs. Rita. It's Carissa."
A moment of surprise in Mrs. Rita's voice. "Carissa, dear! How have you been?"
