Chereads / The Genius Hunter Can’t Die! / Chapter 20 - The Traitor

Chapter 20 - The Traitor

I was a bit angered but quickly moved on.

*Sigh* I can't do this anymore.

This isn't my story to tell, it's time for 'him' to tell it.

….

…..

He sat there angered and bewildered, wondering what sort of demon had possessed Arthur to interrupt him. It wasn't his first dance but it was a dance nonetheless.

"Your cyberware must be fucked up, or are you doing this on purpose?" John asked bluntly. Arthur was already suspicious, to begin with, so his every action needed to be considered.

"…."

Luna looked away in embarrassment, a lady-like action, as the campfire's flames crackled only silence prevailed.

Until the accused, Arthur, finally broke the silence.

"My bad, but the timer suddenly jumped so I wanted to ask about it." He excused himself crudely.

"It jumped..?"

[Mission [Survive] will start when the countdown reaches 0 :[ 0:10:29]]

"Huh? It jumped 90% of the time! System, what is going on?"

[Random changes can happen at any time. The [Suicide] difficulty is its own being.]

The three looked at each other and understood one thing, survival had just gotten several times harder. An unpredictable difficulty was the last straw.

"We're fucked."

"Definitely."

"At least there's only one day left after today."

[Mission will begin in 10..9..8..7..]

"…Wolves!"

"Wooo?!"

Instantly my wolves appeared.

"You guys watch yourselves, Arthur take the high ground with your sniper and Luna can take the back. If we cover each other we can make it." John strategized quickly.

Of course, he couldn't just say he was immortal and charge in blindly, not only would no one believe him but he'd be putting himself at risk. Immortals would logically make the best test subjects after all…

He then leaped onto one of the wolves and took off towards the forest. In order to be able to fully make use of his immortality he needed to be alone and free to do as he wished without hiding anything.

[Mission target designated as [Goblin Horde].]

"Fuck!" just as John entered the forest a horde of green goblins flooded out of nowhere.

"A horde of experience!" he shouted and jumped into the fray, an immortal could fight with true freedom after all. Death was not the end for him but for them, it was inevitable.

[You have survived the 2nd day!]

The notification finally appeared as John lay in a pool of guys and blood, the goblin horde in his area was defeated but at the cost of his death countless times over. He took out a cigarette and lit it with his [Projection].

"Take me home pups," he said in a defeated voice, his entire skin covered in blood from both himself and the goblins. The energy healed his body and state but the tiredness of the soul was a different matter, to recharge the soul another soul was required.

The Wolves took him upon their backs and carried him back to the village. He lay in peace, smoking and gazing at the stars but deep down he yearned for something. His dream of reviving his friends and sister and being a bigshot living in the sky mansions of daycity was what fueled him to continue and it served as good fuel.

Yet for every man, a moment of doubt needed to come.

"This [Suicide] difficulty, and climbing this tower like a dog, is this what I'm made for…? Is this what's going to get me where I want?" he asked himself, unsure as to where fate would take him.

Maybe the whispers of the hooded figure weren't to be trusted, maybe the tower wasn't the way, these sorts of questions plagued his mind.

The wolves soon arrived at the campfire, night had long come around and Arthur and Luna were sitting around the fire. One look however and you could tell they had conflicted with each other, each one of them was looking in a different direction and the anger around their faces was clear.

The wolves dropped him off softly at the side.

"You're here John!" Luna's face lit up when she saw him and she moved over towards him.

"It's good that you're alive, the goblins were crazy at times," John replied with a smile, a soul soothed another soul as usual.

"They really were..." Liam began to recount her battle.

The conversation flourished and they continued to talk until the night was in its midst.

"You want some?" Luna suddenly pulled out something that resembled an inhaling device.

"A Chrome-Cloud? You're a fun girl if I say so myself!" John laughed at the device as Luna put it up to her lips and pressed a button on its side, instantly smoke flowed into her mouth.

"come closer," she told John.

"Sure, Mhm!" John leaned in and with no further notice, Luna kissed him deeply her tongue at the forefront of the assault.

"Mhm!"

"Mmm"

Arthur had long left the camp, so they were to do as they wished, and as the smoke in Luna's mouth also flowed into John's, he began to loosen up.

"I need your help with something, Heavy Rain Choom," Luna said as she unbuckled her pants.

"You don't need to tell me twice," John responded after taking a hit of the Chrome-Cloud.

Soon, his pants were gone and his dragon soared and he grabbed her by the shoulders as she gasped.

As for the rest, a lot of pounding was involved, to say the least.

THE NEXT MORNING.

[You have die-ERROR ERROR]

'Am I dreaming? The death message is even appearing in my dreams?'

[You have die-ERROR ERROR]

"This! This isn't a dream!" John snapped out of the dreamlike state only to find a barrel right in his face.

"You're still alive?!"

*BANG!* * BANG!*

The shooter was of course Arthur armed with his sniper rifle.

[You have die-ERROR ERROR]

"Fuck!" John dodged away, took out his revolver, and aimed it at Arthur, though he was completely naked, it wasn't the time for such unimportant things.

Each of them pointed a gun at the other and a standoff was created.

"I knew it! You're the final one! You're the 12th, [The Immortal]!" Arthur said with a fanatical expression.

"How do you know that?! Who are you? Why did you attack me?" John asked frantically attempting to make sense of what was going on. Sure, Arthur was suspicious but for Arthur to murder him was not something John expected.

"I am the 5th, [The Traitor], I've done what I needed to, I'm leaving now!" Arthur said.

"There's no leaving the tower! I'm going to rip you apart-" Before John even finished speaking Arthur's body began to disappear.

"Watch me!" Arthur laughed.

*BANG!* *BANG* *BANG!* *BANG* *BANG!* *BANG*

John unloaded his revolver but it was too late as every bullet passed through thin air and Arthur disappeared.

"That bastard got away!" John thought as he returned his revolver to the inventory.

Lookce he looked, however, shock overpowered him.

"LUNA NO!!"
