With Thane's invisibility cloak, he and Daphne had no problem sneaking out of the castle and into the Forbidden Forest.
Once trees surrounded them and there wasn't a soul in sight, Thane retracted his cloak, and it settled back onto his shoulders.
Daphne stared at the silver garment in amazement, "I don't think I've ever seen such a powerful invisibility cloak."
"Well, I would hope not. After all, this is an ancient Fae artifact," Thane replied, which made Daphne's eyebrows shoot up, "Really?"
Thane nodded, "The strange part is that Harry received it as a Christmas gift last year."
"Is that so?" Daphne asked, "Then how come you're in possession of it?"
A shameless smile spread across Thane's lips, "I may have relieved him of it after informing him that, legally, the cloak belonged to my family."
"Oh my, no wonder he glared at you so intensely; first, you take his magical artifact, then you woo his sister," Daphne replied with an equally devilish smile.
"I didn't woo Rose," Thane muttered somewhat defensively.
"Oh really?" Daphne asked with a raised eyebrow as she leaned in and pressed her body against Thane, "Because from what she told me, after your little scuffle with Malfoy, you took her back to your room and gave her an oil massage. I have to admit I'm a little jealous."
"When did she tell you about that?" Thane asked in shock, wondering how he had possibly missed that interaction during their training sessions.
"Oh, during one of our girl's nights," Daphne replied offhandedly as she stared, tracing circles across Thane's chest with her fingernail.
"Girl's nights, since when has that been a thing?" Thane asked, though his concentration was interrupted by Daphne's touch.
"Since I figured out that Rose and Luna were fated to be your wives," Daphne replied again as if it was of no consequence, "As First Wife, it's my responsibility to keep the house in order, which means ensuring that all your wives, concubines, and occasional flings, understand their place, have their needs met and are satisfied with whatever arrangement they have with our House."
Thane stared at Daphne in disbelief, "Don't you think you're taking this a little too seriously? Do you really think I'm going to have concubines? I'm not some medieval lord from the Dark Ages."
A slight frown marred Daphne's face as she let out a sigh and cupped Thane's cheek, "No, I am not taking this too seriously, and honestly, I'm surprised I have to explain this to you. While you might try to hide and remain unknown, you, Thane Fae, are a powerful man. And if there is one thing we nobles know, it is how to sniff out power. Once all the other houses see that you're not just some brat who can be ignored or dealt with offhandedly, they will employ every method possible to ensure that they get a piece of the pie you bring to the table."
"And that leads to me having concubines?" Thane asked, and Daphne nodded, "Of course, while it's uncommon as the found of a New House, it's expected that you would have as many children as possible to ensure that your bloodline doesn't die out in two generations. Now imagine if one of those women got pregnant and then threatened to do something unwise; it could cause quite the conundrum."
Thane could only shake his head, "I can't believe you're already thinking about all this."
Daphne smiled at Thane, and the sight made his heart flutter, "From the moment I was born, this is the role my parents prepared me to fulfill. It brings me great joy that I get to use my knowledge to assist the man I love."
Thane blinked as Daphne's words echoed inside his head, 'She said she loves me.'
"T-Thane, are you alright?" Daphne asked as Thane's green eye spaced out, and he gained a faraway look in his eyes.
Suddenly, Thane stepped away from Daphne, and a second later, his body began to morph quickly, growing in size as silver scales covered over his body. Daphne watched in awe as Thane transformed into a massive silver dragon, easily fifteen feet tall at the shoulders and twice that in length.
Thane shook his head as he finished transforming before fixing his large green eyes on Daphne, who stared up at him in wonder. From his back, Thane's wings unfolded, and he was equipped with two fully functional clawed hands, one of which reached out, offering a platform for Daphne to step onto.
Without any hesitation, Daphne stepped onto Thane's outstretched paw tipped with massive claws, the largest of which was the length of her entire torso. Thane then lowered Daphne onto his back, where she settled in the nook between his long serpentine neck and his shoulder.
Once Daphne was situated, Thane spread out his wings before tensing his limbs and pushing off the ground with all his might. The earth shook as Thane jumped into the air before a might flap of his wings sent him soaring above the trees that swayed violently in the gust that Thane kicked up.
Daphne yelped, and she grabbed one of the spikes trailing down Thane's spine as he climbed into the air, pumping his wings furiously. Eventually, Thane leveled out his wings extending to either side to glide in the air as the forest rushed past beneath him.
Holding up her hand to block out the furious winds, Daphne forced her eyes open as she looked around taking in the beautiful night sky and the forest below them that was somehow both haunting and enchanting.
Leaning down, Daphne pressed herself against Thane as she shouted at the top of her lungs, "Where are we going!"
Thane's only response was a deep growl, making his entire body vibrate. Daphne stiffened for a moment, and a slight blush spread across her cheeks. "I-If you say so."
Thane flew quickly, clearly in a rush, but then Daphne noticed he started to descend as his speed decreased. She looked down only to see an isolated grove surrounded by slate cliffs in the very middle of the forest.
Thane landed in the middle of the grove with a soft thump and a snort before lowering his neck, allowing Daphne to slide off onto the ground. As she stood and gazed up at the towering cliffs covered in moss, Daphne realized the grove was much larger than she had initially given it credit for.
"While I'll admit this is a nice setting, why did you bring me here," Daphne asked, but as she turned around to face Thane, she found the answer waiting for her in his reptilian eyes that stared at her with naked hunger.
