Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 - The Devil’s Lair

They should be in here…

Jashin slowly walks inside the huge building. The ground was covered in a light brown carpet. The doors slid open by themselves, as he continued to walk forward. He glances around as he enters each room, which only consisted of the same light brown carpet and a shoji sliding open by itself as he progressed. The height of each room was 2 metres and felt like a small box. A shiver crawls down his spine, as he feels the end drawing near. Finally, he enters a small room, filled with beautiful paintings on the wall and a small cherry blossom tree in each corner of the room. The air was sweet smelling. A man sits on a pillow in front of him with his eyes closed and his legs crossed. A table was placed inbetween them. A friendly smile stretched on his face. His hair was tied back into a bun, his side hair stopping just above his shoulders. He wears a long, dark blue haori and dark blue pants. His skin was light brown and he wore one ear ring on his left ear,

"Ah, you took your time, Jashin. I hope you have some good news for me."

"Lord Gaku, I…" The sound of something slicing causes Jashin's ears to perk up.

He slowly looks down to see his left leg lying on the ground next to him, blood now dripping from his wound. He looks up to see Gaku pointing his finger directly at his leg. His eyes widen in shock,

"Why aren't you kneeling, Jashin? Look, you made me make a mess on the floor." His voice was calm and gentle and he still has that friendly smile painted on his face.

He slowly regenerates his left leg and slowly kneels, placing his right fist onto the ground too,

"My apologies, Lord Gaku."

"Good. Now, what news do you have for me?"

"I have been able to corrupt many children for you, Lord Gaku. Every student that has faced me has been defeated and brought to you. Your strength grows due to you absorbing them."

"Well done, Jashin! You're doing your job well! But, why are you here then?" Jashin's forehead begins to sweat and his body shivers slightly as he gulps,

"I was tricked by two dreamcatchers… and… a powerful mage forced me to retreat." Gaku's eyes slowly open.

Jashin's head remains down and he doesn't dare to look up. Gaku's hazelnut eyes remain on Jashin,

"So, despite my barrier around your heart and your status as a nightmare, you lost to two dreamcatchers?"

"I managed to…" He suddenly stops talking,

I can't speak…

"I don't think you understand… cult leader… you lost to two people that were leagues below your own. I couldn't care less about the other powerful mage, but someone… who should be no problem for you… bested you today." His voice was still calm, however his smile is replaced with an annoyed look,

"Such a disappointment…" Jashin feels his chest grow tight, as he places his hands over his heart.

Gaku's hand slowly clutches into a fist, as the barrier begins to crush Jashin's heart,

"Wait! My Lord wait! Please!" Gaku stops and his hand relaxes.

Jashin coughs and slowly looks up,

"I was able to capture one of them…"

"And is that supposed to impress me?" Jashin feels a claw strike his neck.

He grasps the area that had been slit and looks down to see blood dripping from four deep scratches. He looks up to see a woman. She was wearing a dark blue leather jacket and white top. Her hair was gold and tied into a ponytail. Her eyes were emerald and her smile was wide. She wore blue jeans and was licking her fingers, which contained Jashin's blood on them,

"Lightning based attacks? Not bad." She says, her eyes now shifting towards Gaku.

Her entire arm now covered with dark purple lightning causes Jashin's eyes to widen. Her fist now points at Jashin, ready to finish him off,

My attack! But how?!

"Let him live." Another voice causes Jashin to turn his head to the left.

A man with a black mask and grey eyes emerges from the shoji to the left. He walks slowly. His hair was black and his eyebrows were thick. He wore a long, dark grey cloak and no top, exposing his skinny body. His pants were black and he wore a pair of black trainers,

"He is not completely useless. He has his uses. Keeping the foundation at bay, is what we need, Gaku." Jade lets out a groan,

"He kidnapped one of my former students! Why should we let him live?!"

"Now now Jade. Ringo has never let us down before. We should listen to him. Also, how is that a reason to kill Jashin?"

"I'm not completely heartless…" She mutters.

Gaku sighs and then looks at Jashin,

"Continue your mission, but don't go back to Lunar Village. Your time there is over, because of your foolishness. Move to the city and target more… older folks. Teenagers or young adults. They have more dark matter than children. So, do your best… and don't let me down." Gaku slowly walks towards Jashin, who is still kneeling on the floor.

He places a hand firmly on his hand and Jashin starts to twitch violently. He struggles to breathe and his body loses control,

"This is to ensure you do not fail again. Now, out of my sight." Gaku let's go of his head and Jashin takes a deep breath.

He nods and slowly stands up. Humiliated and filled with rage, he turns around and walks the way he came. Gaku sits back down,

Seijuro Yoshiki… Bruno Niojin… I will tear your throats out, if it is the last thing I do!

"I hope you're right about this, Ringo!" Jade says mockingly and he replies with with a grunt.

A sudden noise causes the trio to whip their heads towards the left. All of them wait, as it is now replaced with silence. Suddenly, a red arrow pierces straight through Ringo's shoulder. Gaku stands up and clashes with a man, who charges straight through the door. His right arm glowing dark purple, creating a small shield around it. The man had red eyes and messy hair. He was around 6 foot, the same height as Gaku. He wore a dark red kimono with black hakama pants and black sandals. His smile was wide and in his hand was a red sword,

"Such quick reactions. Impressive." He says, his voice filled with malice,

"Why you…!" Before Jade can help, something prevents her from moving.

She looks up to see a girl, who looks to be in her mid twenties, standing in the doorway. Her hair was black and stood up, almost as if it was floating. She wore dark purple pants, a black top and she stood at a height of 5'7, similar to the woman that was holding her now. Her gaze was cold and she had her arm out with her left hand balled into a fist,

A duplicate?! She's definitely not human!

The one holding her had a large smile across her face,

"Got ya, punk!" She exclaims while giggling.

The sound of heavy footsteps fills the room, as the man slowly backs away from Gaku and steps out of the way to make space for whatever is coming. His weapon suddenly turns into a red liquid, which seems to be blood and is absorbed back into himself. A man, with dark purple armour and the word "Yama" written across his breastplate, walks in the room. He wears a black cloak and a sword on his waist. His hair was long and black. His eyes were dark purple and a scar ran across his forehead. He towers over Gaku and the others, standing at a height of 6'9,

"Modern Japan. It fascinates me. I must say the hospitality of the people has definitely improved." He looks down at Gaku, his eyes were wide, but he suddenly smirks and sits back down,

"Ah! Pleased to meet you, Masashi Khan!" He rings a small bell and a maid runs in,

"Mr Gaku… you called?" She looks around and shivers at the sight of all the people in the room,

"Maria! Bring us two cups of green tea, please. Thank you." He says politely.

She nods and quickly exits the room. Masashi takes a seat in front of Gaku, sitting on his knees with his palms placed on his thighs,

"Forgive my subordinates for being so… barbaric." He looks at both of them and nods.

The woman releases Jade from her grip, walking towards her stoic twin. They slowly merge together to form one body and Ringo removes the arrow and heals his wound instantly,

"I see your a man of business. A thousand years ago, I once ruled the world. My empire… greater than the size of Alexander the Great. Once I gained this power, I thirsted for blood. My army satisfied my hunger. However… those mages managed to seal me away, along with my other three subordinates. These two were not with me at the time. Stealing me of everything. A thousand years later… I came back, only to be sealed again. When I heard that the Foundation itself was falling apart, my satisfaction was immeasurable. Now, I will ensure the prospering of my kingdom." Gaku blinks and smiles,

"Well, that's great to hear, Masashi! What exactly do you need from me?"

"I need time. None of us, are at full power. As soon as we are, the mages will suffer."

"You are already quite powerful."

"Not powerful enough." The maid walks back in, holding a tray with two cups of tea.

She places it on the small table in front of them and quickly walks away,

"Wait." She freezes and slowly turns around,

"Come here." She nervously approaches Masashi and looks up at him with his piercing gaze.

He slowly touches her head and she blinks in confusion. Suddenly, she begins twitching violently. Her skin turns dark purple and she slowly condenses into a small, dark purple ball. The only visible features being arms and teeth,

"Masashi… she was my favourite maid." He says with an annoyed tone.

Gaku stretches his arms out and his hands begin to glow dark purple. He slowly condenses the newly born fear into a small ball, and it now sits in his left hand. He moves it to his mouth and swallows it,

An element type… fascinating…

"Now, what is in it for me?" Gaku leans his head onto his right hand and yawns,

"Anything you possibly need, consider it done. I was once a general, I know how to plan an attack." Gaku's smirk grows into a full smile and he extends a hand,

Perfect…

"Looks like we have a deal, Masashi!" A smile forms on the king's face, as he reaches to shake his hand,

An alliance had been formed to bring down the Fear Foundation. Once. And for all.
