I am the greatest of all Owl monsters. My beak and claws can crush stone with ease, my Light magic is the fastest in the world. I am the queen of night skies. No matter what, I am the strongest, the greatest Phantom Owl! However, I learned one crucial thing…
"Numbers… Numbers are important too…"
On a beautiful moon filled night, I was challenged to a fight by a pack of Black wolves and experienced a crushing defeat.
I mean, why are these monsters even fighting in a group?! Aren't they usually loners?!
As if to laugh at my ignorance, they beat the shit out of me and as if to mock me, they brought me before an Ancient boy, demanding headpats for a job well done. Never in my life have I met anyone this scary. He might've been just one, but every fiber of my being told me that if I tried anything to harm him, I wouldn't be in this world for long. I mean, when they brought me in, he was butchering Ironcrow Empress! That's a bird monster even I have to be wary of!
Ironcrow Empress is a monster with four wings shining with black iron sheen, its beak is capable of taking down trees over thousand years old with a single hit. Humans sometimes use their feathers for blades, and I even saw one using the Empress' skull for a helmet.
"Honestly, this guy is so scary… but the food is great…"
Looking over the Dimension Home I now live in, my eyes fell on my partner. His name is Skopi and honestly, I first thought he would be better than this. He was the strongest owl I could find within three weeks of flying out of our home cave and I foolishly thought that he would be a good asset against the wolves, but he's just a lazybone! He can sleep all the way to lunch time, barely moves when he's awake and for a Freezing Owl, he loves sunbathing way too much! I mean, won't you melt in this heat? Are you an imbecile? Honestly, his only worth is to be my night partner during mating season.
Our kids, Scarsia, Pepper and Loufelt, while only being Shadow owls, are much more powerful than him. Much more capable of fighting the wolves. That is if they weren't so buddy buddy with them!!!
I only hope they will grow up big and strong.
*** ※ Skopi's POV
My wife is a terribly busybody and too fixated on small stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love her and our kids as well, but she is way too fixated on defeating the wolves. I mean, who cares about them? Since we are cute and cool owls, we won the game of Fate. Our master doesn't want too much from us. I mean, my only work outside the Dimension home —that has the perfect temperature, by the way— is to use my ice magic to keep things that need to stay cold, frozen.
Since the wolves are our Master's go to attack and scouting units, we can just sit in the back and enjoy life. What else do you want? We don't need to worry about food or shelter, so what else would you want?
"Another beautiful morning!"
"It's already lunch time, you idiot!" My wife hit me with her wing
"Hehe, sorry, I'm going to freeze the boxes right away. What is for lunch anyway?"
"It's sheep!" Pepper raised her wings with a happy chirp.
Oh, my sweet daughter is so cute today as well, I smiled to myself and after giving her a little kiss as a thank you and went to the boxes.
As I was done with the freezing, the portal leading to the outside world opened up and a Kobold entered the Dimension home with some Cleaning slimes in his hands.
"Well hello there, newbie," I flew over to the kobold and landed on his head.
"Well met!" he responded rustily.
"Since I'm the first one you have met, let me give you a simple explanation of how things go around here."
"'Kay."
"All of us tamed by our Great Master are equal, but there are certain things you need to remember. First of all, if you don't do the work that has been assigned to you by our Master, you will not eat, so make sure you do the best you can."
"Sure!"
"Also, see those frozen boxes over there? If you misbehave, you will end up in one of those. Just keep it in mind, okay?" I gave him a cold smile and the Kobold nodded nervously.
There is no chance I'm letting any newbie hurt my family and friends. Better safe than sorry, after all!
