Chapter 3 - Death

"You bastard! Where is my sister?!! What did you do to her? Bring her back!" Enzo charged in Dominique's direction. His fist clenched tightly and his arm launched forward, aiming for Dominique's jaw. The sound of the punch echoed in the room, its impact resonated as Enzo's fist landed at Dominique's right cheek.

A few minutes ago, he received an unsettling message from his sister, Sabrina. She sounded like she was bidding him farewell. She also revealed Dominique's deceitful act.

Caught off guard by the sudden attack, Dominique's hand instinctively touched his reddened jaw. But the shock in his eyes was immediately replaced by a cold and chilly expression.

"I didn't do anything to your sister. She collapsed on her own. She is currently in the Westwood hospital." Dominique's voice was a low controlled growl. According to Sasha, Sabrina was just fine. She just collapsed because of fatigue and over-exhaustion.

"I swear, I'm going to kill you if something bad happens to her," Enzo threatened him. He had an ominous feeling because of Sabrina's last message. He needed to see her as soon as possible.

Setting aside his anger toward his brother-in-law, Enzo stormed out of his office, heading toward the hospital. However, just when he stepped out, Dominique received a message from Sasha.

[ Babe, Sabrina escaped from the hospital! It looks like her best friend, Gael helped her out. But don't worry. I already dispatched the guards to find her and chase after them. ]

Sasha also sent him a picture of Gael and Sabrina running away together.

Dominique's expression turned grim upon seeing the photo. His grip on his phone tightened as he clenched his teeth. "She is with Gael again." There was a hint of jealousy in his voice but he refused to acknowledge it.

[ Find her no matter what and bring them back to me! ] Dominique typed his response to Sasha. He was about to press the send button when his phone rang. He furrowed his brows when he saw the Caller ID. It was Sabrina.

Dominique answered the phone promptly. "Where the hell are you?" he asked in a stern, cold voice. His chest heaved with controlled rage, yet deep inside, there was a small twinge of worry.

"I'll sign the divorce paper… under a condition. Meet me where our paths first crossed. Come alone. I'll be waiting." Sabrina didn't wait for Dominique to respond. She immediately ended the call.

Feeling a bit irritated, Dominique stood up, grabbing his coat and car keys. He didn't have to think twice. He knew the place she was referring to.

*****

Twenty minutes later…

It was raining heavily. Sabrina stood resolute by the edge of the bridge, her figure soaked in the downpour. Dominique recognized her instantly. He pulled his car up nearby, just a few meters away from Sabrina. He stepped out and stood for a moment, the rain bouncing off his coat, soaking him within seconds.

'Does she want to get sick?' He complained inwardly. With determined steps, Dominique made his way toward her.

As he drew closer, Sabrina turned to face him, the rain streaming down her face, her eyes locking onto his with a mix of emotions. "Stop. Don't come closer."

Dominique came to an abrupt stop. His words caught in his throat as he noticed her swollen eyes, proof that she had cried a lot. His heart clenched with an inexplicable mix of sympathy yet he needed to push it away to the back of his mind, maintaining his cold demeanor.

"Have you signed it? Where are the documents?" Dominique inquired in an indifferent tone.

Sabrina just ignored his query. Instead, she smiled at him bitterly and asked, "The day you saved my life on this bridge… is that also part of your scheming plot or not? Please tell me honestly, Dom."

Dominique hesitated for a fleeting moment. He couldn't look straight into her eyes. Three years ago, in this very spot, he saved her from her kidnappers. That kidnapping incident was just a ploy so that he could enter Sabrina's life as her savior.

"Answer me, Dom!" Sabrina urged him to speak up.

"Yes." He flatly responded.

Memories flashed back, evoking bittersweet moments that had once filled her days with happiness. All the beautiful moments she shared with him were all lies. She couldn't help but burst into laughter… a sorrowful laughter!

Dominique stood in silence just watching her.

Their moment was interrupted abruptly when Sasha suddenly appeared, accompanied by several guards.

"I told you to come alone. Yet you can't even fulfill my one last request." Sabrina's voice carried a mixture of disappointment and frustration.

A deep crease formed on Dominique's forehead as he shifted his gaze, following Sabrina's line of sight. He was also surprised to see Sasha and the guards.

"Dominique Smith… I regret loving you. I don't know what my family did to you. But I hope that ruining my life is enough to pay for that. I hope in my next life, our paths won't cross again."

The moment Dominique gazed back at her, Sabrina had already leaped over the bridge's railing without hesitation. For a heartbeat, she was suspended in mid-air and she closed her eyes, letting her body fall into the flowing river.

She felt a surge of adrenaline, a sudden rush of freedom that set her heart pounding. 'I won't be a pawn in their game. They won't break me. I'll die in order to survive.' Sabrina's determination surged like a blazing fire.

In that fleeting moment, Dominique's astonished expression lingered in her mind. She even heard him calling her name for one last time.

"Sabrina!!!"
