Following Daemond's orders, Octavianus took Annica into hiding.
It was almost dawn. The spy they sent to the border had just returned to say that their plan worked. The rebel army had already passed the border and was now moving towards them. Three hundred men, they say, maybe more. Against five hundred royal army. Not exactly a formidable opponent, but still, Octavianus felt anxious. Especially since he was now in the back storage room hiding while his general had to fight alone.
"Sit in the corner and don't move," Octavianus pointed to one of the darkest corners of the room while pushing a heavy wooden cabinet against the door.
Annica complied without arguing. She seated herself in the corner and waited. Her blue eyes watched Octavianus who was now reaching for the sacks of potatoes and piling them onto the cupboard.
"The gossip I heard from the maids is true, isn't it?" Annica asked.
"What gossip?" Octavianus asked without looking.
