Annica found Daemond not far from the path around the river. She knew that because Daemond had said that he liked the place. Daemond must have heard Annica's footsteps because he didn't look surprised when she suddenly asked.
"What does it feel like to kill someone?"
Daemond turned slowly. Part of his face was hidden in the shadows of the forest, part of it looked pale in the moonlight. The man's hair fell around his green eyes.
"What does it feel?" Daemond repeated Annica's question.
Annica nodded.
"Yes. I want to know."
"It's hard to explain," Daemond replied. "Gallus once told me to treat your enemy like animals. Eventually, that's how I felt when I killed someone, like a butcher doing his job. Just something you need to do."
"What about that woman? The Queen of the East. Do you remember what happened to her?" Annica continued. "She was your first victim, wasn't she?"
Daemond nodded.
