Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Albirteuno stood in the hallway, laptop in hand, pondering the dilemma of Tim John's workplace location. She sighed, realizing she would just have to resort to the ancient practice of asking him directly. Albirteuno pulled out her phone and messaged Tim John: "Where exactly do you work?" While standing on the sidewalk, under the mid-morning sun waiting for Tim John's response to her message, Albirteuno tapped her foot impatiently on the sidewalk, her annoyance clear on her face. Albirteuno couldn't help but check her watch every few seconds, as if willing Tim John to reply faster. After what felt to her like an eternity, her phone finally buzzed with a message from Tim John: "Oh, right, I never told you." Albirteuno gritted her teeth, resisting the urge to throw her phone into the nearest trash can at Tim John's lack of helpfulness. "Great, helpful as always." She muttered under her breath, her impatience evident in her exaggerated sighs. She typed out a reply: "Just tell me the address." Albirteuno sent the message, her annoyance growing with each passing moment. Tim John quickly responded with the address of his workplace, which Albirteuno promptly plugged in to her Maps app. Albirteuno blinked, trying to process what her phone was showing her. "You drive to a place that's literally a stone's throw away? Seriously?" she muttered to herself, resisting the urge to throw her phone into the nearest body of water. With a resigned sigh, she set out on foot, happy atleast that she didn't need to pay to reach the address, and determined to complete the laptop delivery and return home as quickly as possible. As Albirteuno embarked on her unexpected courier quest, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was a character in a poorly scripted sitcom, destined to encounter one absurd situation after another. "Well," she muttered to herself, "if this is a sitcom, I demand better writers." Her journey on foot was uneventful, and soon she found herself approaching a row of buildings along the street. Among the towering structures, she spotted a smaller nondescript office building with a faded sign. With a shrug, she figured it must be the place and made her way inside. The lobby was quiet, with only a receptionist behind the front desk. Albirteuno approached her with a polite smile. "Excuse me, I'm looking for Tim John's office. Do you know where I can find him?" The receptionist, who seemed surprised by an unexpected visitor, directed her in Tim John's direction. Albirteuno followed the receptionist's directions, while trying to avoid eye contact with any suited individual she walked by, feeling decidedly out of place in her casual attire. Finally reaching Tim John, Albirteuno handed him the laptop without uttering a word. Tim John, seemingly oblivious to the lingering tension, grinned and exclaimed, "Ah, my knight in shining armor! Or should I say, my independent savior?" Albirteuno resisted the urge to roll her eyes to the heavens. "Let's not get carried away, Tim. I'm just here to drop off your precious laptop." Tim John chuckled, "Fair enough. Thanks for saving the day, Miss Independent." Albirteuno shot him a look that could curdle milk. "Don't push it, Tim." As Albirteuno turned to leave Tim John's workplace, she accidentally bumped into a distinguished-looking man in a sharp suit. The man stumbled slightly but quickly regained his composure, straightening with practiced precision. "Oh, I'm terribly sorry," Albirteuno apologized, feeling a tad embarrassed by her clumsiness. "No harm done. Tim, who's this?" he inquired. Tim John, ever nonchalant, replied, "Oh, that's Albirteuno, my roommate." The distinguished man extended a hand. "I don't believe we've met before. Are you new here?" Albirteuno hesitated, unsure how to respond to the man's unexpected inquiry. "Um, no, I was just dropping off something for... Tim John," she replied, gesturing vaguely in Tim's direction. "Oh I see, Tim mentioned you might drop by." Albirteuno raised an eyebrow. "He did? Did he?" He nodded, "Well, he didn't name you specifically. He only said someone would drop off the laptop he forgot." She nodded politely to the distinguished man. "Well, it was just a quick drop-off. Nice to meet you, umm, I don't think I caught your name?" The man smiled warmly, extending his hand once more. "Apologies for the oversight. I'm Guildenstern McLoughlin, Tim's boss." Albirteuno's eyes widened in surprise, realizing she had forgotten to shake his hand. "Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. McLoughlin," she replied, this time actually shaking his hand. Guildenstern McLoughlin maintained a friendly demeanor. "No need for formalities, just call me Guildenstern. Thanks for handling this delivery, despite what Tim might say, we don't have meetings very often, so it would have been very unfortunate if he hadn't had his laptop today," he continued. Albirteuno nodded, a bit flustered. "Sure, no problem. I'll, uh, leave you to your work then." Guildenstern McLoughlin nodded appreciatively, "Of course, don't let me keep you. It was a pleasure meeting you, and thank you again, Ms.Albirteuno. And if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask." Albirteuno smiled politely, feeling a bit out of her depth in this unexpected encounter. "I'll keep that in mind, Mr.Guildenstern. Have a good day." With a final nod, she turned to leave the office, feeling a mixture of relief and confusion at the encounter. With that, Albirteuno made her exit, feeling a mixture of relief and apprehension as she left the office building behind. As she walked back home, she couldn't shake the feeling that her encounter with Guildenstern McLoughlin might not be the last she'd have with Tim John's boss.
