Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9: BEAUTIFUL SCAMMER 2

'Hehe, do you think that I would let a chance go when I find something that I truly want?' Calista chuckled sinisterly as she scooped pap from the pot into the porcelain plates, she loved using a lot.

Being a villager, and in a backward place like Cropville Village, porcelain was actually luxury. Even for some noble families, it wasn't everyone who used porcelain.

Even at the house where she used to stay before everything in her life changed, only the patriarch used porcelain when eating.

The most common materials used to make plates were earthenware, wood, and stoneware.

She hadn't come across any glass or metal plates as of yet but she knew that somewhere, people were already moving towards that direction, advancing technology in every way they could.

That wasn't any of her business though. Whatever was out, she would do her best to get it. All she needed to do was wait for someone to invent everything. She would just be a happy consumer without getting worried about being assassinated simply because her head carries too much valuable information.

The tallest tree always gets struck whenever there is lightning.

She was already in the limelight, all because she fished, hunted and dressed better than everyone in all eight villages combined.

Imagine what her life would become if she were to remove all the vests she was wearing.

However, since this was her home, Calista didn't fear anyone talking behind her back. She would eat whatever she wanted and use any material she liked. After all, wasn't she working hard for all of it?

And just thinking about Orson, when had she ever not got what she wanted?

Back then when she came across her late husband. Whether it was love at first sight or dependency. She still made it her mission to make him her husband.

All her life, she had been told what to do by others. She had to take into consideration other people's feelings, but what about her?

Who was going to think of her first and see that she also mattered?

Instead of waiting patiently and diligently, being a virtuous woman and hoping that one day love would come to find her. Or that the elders would settle a marriage for her and then find out later that the man chosen was nothing but a bastard in human skin. Calista swore the night she was given a second chance to grasp everything that she wanted with her own two hands.

If she likes it, she will go for it but if she doesn't, then she won't bother. That was the case with Orson. From the second she decided to save him, she knew that she wanted him. She didn't care whether he had a family, kids or a spouse out there.

Since he was so bold to appear in her territory, then he was hers. The second she used her pricey medicine to heal him, that relationship was even cemented. And him telling her that he had amnesia, whether he was being truthful and or trying to gauge her reaction, even made her decision firmer.

One way or the other, she was going to make sure before the end of the week, she and Orson had tied the knot. As for what would happen in the future, she would take one step at a time.

In a matter of minutes, two plates were served. A plate with pap, not too thin and not too thick, with some vegetables and stewed fish.

Calista prepared a wooden dish of warm water and a cloth to dry hands later. She took the dish to the tree house where she carried it to the room that Orson was currently in.

When she entered, she had a doting smile on her face, as if she wasn't the same person who had coerced Orson into marrying her some minutes ago.

"Wash your hands, I will bring the food in a moment," she said as she placed the dish a short distance away from Orson.

Orson could no longer be treated as a patient, to be honest. Her medicine was potent enough to make a cripple person walk in a day without feeling any pain.

So how could he still be in pain when all the wounds had healed except for the scar she deliberately put earlier?

Orson forced a smile on his face as he reached for the dish. "Thank you."

Calista nodded satisfactorily at Orson before leaving once again.

Seeing Calista gone, Orson massaged his throbbing temples with a dish of water on his lap.

'What did I get myself into? Is it too late to leave here?' he lamented as he recalled the powerful surge of spiritual energy all over the house.

Moments later, Calista returned to the room holding two plates of food. Upon entering the room. A wave of aromatic food that made him involuntarily swallow hit Orson.

'That smells delicious!' he couldn't help but praise as he set aside his current problems plaguing him.

Calista was very confident when it came to cooking. After all, with all the time given to her back then, and with how she couldn't eat enough when young, her desire to cook good food was instilled in her.

So, she did her best to learn the craft and make sure that she would never starve or treat herself badly ever again.

"It's pap, vegetables and stewed fish. I hope that you will like it!" Calista gave a brief introduction of the food as she passed a plate over to Orson who took it with his big hand making Calista look at Orson for a brief second before looking away.

"Thank you!" he said gratifiedly.

Although Calista was a bit domineering when scamming and coercing others, he could tell that she wasn't exactly a bad person. Maybe it was because he was extremely hungry or the food was just too tantalizing for him.

"You are welcome."

As they ate their food, Orson would steal a peek at Calista and the more he observed her the more interested he became in her.

Just who exactly was she?
