Chapter 30 - CHAPTER 30: WEDDING PREPARATIONS

"Is everything finished?" Orson asked as he dusted his hands while approaching Calista, who was now sitting on a drum-shaped stool fanning herself and panting slightly.

Until now, he still was in a bit of shock as he recalled what had happened earlier.

When she left that morning, he knew that she was going to the nearby town, which he now knew was five hours from the village.

When he learnt of that, Orson was so shocked as it finally sank in that the place he found himself in was truly backward.

No wonder why even the houses weren't as impressive as the ones from where he came from. And knowing that, he still wondered how Calista ended up in such a place in the first place.

Calista, on the other hand, felt so tired as she thought of how hot the sun was that day. In order to return early, she and her friend Susan didn't dare linger for long in town after getting everything they wanted.

And since the journey was that long, she ended up returning home around nine at night. Thankfully, the moon hung high up in the sky, so the roads were clear.

With villagers roaming around every hour, they also came across a lot of people who were on their way home as well.

Fortunately, because of that, Calista, Susan and Frank didn't have to worry about facing any misfortunes.

When she arrived home, Orson was waiting for her. Her heart was filled with warmth when she saw how anxious he looked because she returned late.

Since the man was already waiting for her and Susan had to help her carry her load to the hill, Calista was forced to introduce her husband, she abducted to her friend.

As it was late, Susan couldn't see Orson properly and just promised to visit when it was daytime.

With all the luggage on the hill, Orson helped Calista to carry everything inside the tree house and now the two were busy looking at each other without any words spoken.

After admiring her handsome husband, she had been scarred due to jealousy, something that she would never run away from, Calista felt her heart flutter.

"It's late, let's go inside the house!" afraid of her nasty thoughts, Calista found herself urging the man.

Orson chuckled lightly when he heard that and moments later, he was locking the door of the tree house and getting ready for sleep.

Calista didn't have any energy to categorize the items she had purchased, so she bided Orson goodnight before going upstairs where she washed up first before going to bed.

The next morning, after the rooster crowed as usual, Calista woke up feeling energetic and refreshed.

After taking a quick shower, she changed into her black clothes and got ready for some work before the village chief came to her home.

Calista went downstairs where she met with Orson, who was also awake. After exchanging morning greetings, Calista shamelessly dragged Orson for some work in the inner kitchen where the purchased items were.

"You don't have clothes, so I bought some for you. This and ..."

When it comes to spoiling herself or the people who mean a lot to her, Calista is never stingy. She wasn't the peasant type nor the type who would farm all year round, and she didn't want her man to do that as well. So, the type of clothes she bought for Orson were top-notch and they would make him look like a young master from a city and not from some backward, unknown village.

Orson looked at the clothes Calista had bought for him. He wanted to say something as his brows furrowed, but when he saw how she was smiling and exaggeratingly speaking about how she would spoil him in the future and not let any harm befall him; he decided to not spoil the mood.

It was even more so when he saw the wedding clothes, she had bought for them. Looking at the clothes with intrinsic details on them, he felt complicated but didn't dare show it.

If he were to speak nonsense when she was all smiles like that, he didn't know what measures she would take.

For a woman who was not only shameless in doing things but also resolute and vicious when taking what she wanted, Orson didn't want to risk his hard work and suffer a loss when only benefits could be gained as long as he was a bit more obedient.

After showing Orson the wedding clothes, Calista hoped that Orson would accept his fate this time and just wait to marry into her family.

And he mustn't even dare think of running away.

She would rather have him turn down her proposal than flee during the wedding.

Being humiliated and losing face wasn't something that she would easily forgive.

She just hoped that he wouldn't let her shed off a few vests just to chase him down because of that.

One of the interesting things Calista was very interested in showing Orson was the gift Faith gave to her.

It was a lamp which had become a bit popular among the rich and this lamp, unlike the ones everyone knew which used oil to light, the kind of lamp she received was a very special one.

According to the information spreading, and what she had also seen before, the lamp looked unique and was made of materials the manufacturers liked calling plastic. Inside the plastic container which comes in different shapes and in her case, a square, there was a strange small spheric thing inside which was called a bulb.

The bulb had a thin wire inside and apparently; the bulb was the one which would light whenever the lamp was powered.

In the case of ordinary lamps, all she needed was to add more oil, but in this case, she would need a special spark which comes in the form of a cylindrical small object which was designed to fit into the square plastic container and they called it a battery.

The battery would charge or spark the lamp to light and this lamp wouldn't need any oil at all. The special lamp can be carried anywhere and as long as the battery is charged and with power, there is no need to worry about anything.

Once the battery runs out of power, the lamp would be of no use, but one can buy a replacement battery and just like that.

Thankfully, Faith gifted her the lamp with four spare batteries, so Calista was certain that the lamp would last for a while.

After showing her gift to Orson, who looked shocked and amazed by the lamp, Calista felt very smug, as if she had met some country bumpkin. Being able to show off and show Orson what he was getting into their marriage felt like an honor.

Where else would he find such a capable wife like her?
