Riku raised a brow at that. She didn't say anything about what she was seeing back when she explained what [Diviner] did.
'Nyx, keep talking to her,' he instructed her goddess.
/Huh? Why tell me that?/ his goddess asked in confusion. /I'm already doing that, you know?/
The former assassin remained quiet even as Nyx gave him a suspicious stare. He could tell that his goddess was smart enough to know what he was thinking after a bit of actual brainpower on her end.
"Is that so?" Nyx asked, clearly pretending like she never even heard him just now. "Though I guess seeing the future does that to people. Except for Big Brother Tyche, of course."
"I know, right?" Shizu sighed. "I get why I had to prepare myself for it now. Seeing that many futures... It almost felt like I was in a massive room with hundreds of thousands of screens just blaring at me what would happen next."
Riku blinked even as he mechanically pulled another fish out of the water and blankly processed it for their needs. Just the thought of what Shizu just described was mind-boggling. To think that she could see that many possible futures was very much an impossible power worthy of being called a Trump. A mere ten seconds of future sight already gave her that many paths. What more if she could see even further into the future?
"Is it a hard ten seconds, by the way?" he couldn't help but ask.
"Yeah... Any longer and I'd probably collapse before I could even take another step," Shizu weakly shrugged. "Tyche also said that I shouldn't really push myself longer than that. He really stressed that it's already a miracle that I can handle that many seconds of future sight."
"That's probably for the best. Even I know what the mortal limits are in terms of handling godlike powers," Nyx sagely hummed.
"As if you even gave me a chance to get that strong," Riku scoffed at his goddess's undeserved tone. "Your powers are giving me weak options."
"Weak options that you've managed to abuse to their fullest extent so far," Nyx corrected him, a hint of her goddess persona coming out as she frowned. "In addition, there's no telling what the my power could give you next. Chaos does not care. Does not discriminate. It can give, and it can take away."
Riku felt a shiver run down his spine at his goddess's words. Likewise, he spotted Shizu shivering in her seat from the sheer presence that Nyx's statement carried. In a rare instance, the goddess behind the clumsy casual Nyx persona showed up, letting them have a glimpse of what the Goddess of Chaos was truly capable of.
Still, he knew that the ever clumsy Nyx would always be on the forefront of her personality.
"You can really be scary if you wanted to, Nyx," he chuckled as he stood up and placed a hand on the goddess's hair. "You can stop pretending now."
The goddess blinked at the sudden contact. All of a sudden, all of the gravitas surrounding her disappeared as a mad blush spread across her cheek. Immediately, she put her head down, meekly letting him ruffle her hair as she twiddled with her fingers.
"I-I'm still a goddess, you know... Of course I can be scary..."
"It's not fair how Nyx can be both cute and sexy and the same time," Shizu chuckled at him. "You know that, right?"
"Why? Are you jealous?" he fired back.
Predictably, Shizu blushed as it was now her turn to be flustered by his words. People might call him heartless at times, but he still knew how to sweet talk women if he really wanted to.
"W-Wha- Absolutely not!" the fortune teller shouted in embarrassment, her cheeks flushed red as her fists shook on her sides. "It's just not fair to compare me to a literal goddess!"
The former assassin blinked at the sudden outburst of insecurity. "Who said I was comparing you to anyone?" he genuinely asked, his left hand still busy ruffling Nyx's soft violet hair. "You're you. You're pretty beautiful yourself, you know."
"Don't lie to me!"
"But I'm not," he chuckled. "You're really one of the most beautiful people I've ever met in my life."
Shizu's cheeks burned brighter, and Riku couldn't help but let out a soft smirk at what he was seeing. He wasn't even lying. The woman in front of him could actually go toe to toe with some of the most gorgeous women he had ever bedded back when he was still an active hitman. And unlike those women that only wanted him for his power or looks, Shizu was actually useful and genuine. She wasn't a tainted soul trying to live through life through any means necessary. She just wanted to live in peace doing what she loved, and that was one of the best things a man or a woman could ever do if Riku was ever asked as much.
"I-I... Don't think this is over!"
This time, Riku was honestly confused as he watched Shizu turn around and promptly disappear into the cabin, the door slamming behind her as she left him alone with Nyx. Although, he was pretty sure that by her telling him that their conversation wasn't over, that it was most definitely going to be swept under the rug by the time she got out of the cabin. It was just how things worked, sometimes, especially when embarrassment as an emotion was highly in play.
"U-Uhhh.... P-Please stop..."
The former assassin blinked as his attention was pulled back to the goddess in front of him. He didn't even realize that he was still petting her head, and it was clearly affecting Nyx based on how red her face was at the moment.
"Why?"
"It's... It's making me feel funny... and I DON'T LIKE IT."
At Nyx's sudden projection of power, Riku quickly pulled his hand back as Nyx glared at him with a fury of a small kitten. Despite her goddess tone coming in full force, the mad blush on her face did a lot to lessen her presence as an all powerful goddess.
"Your hair was soft," he couldn't help but point out. "I just couldn't help myself."
"W-Well... Don't do it again," she quickly added. "...Not without my- Wait...."
*FWOOSH!*
