Synopsis
Note: (Disclaimer at end of abstract). Synopsis: "In the heart of the boundless Phantom Continent, rests a cursed region smack in the centre of all that is known, aptly named as the Central Region. A domain shrouded in perpetual gloom, despair clings to every shadow and its sole purpose seems to be crushing the souls and dreams of the unfortunate souls that take shelter upon its land. Life is a fight for Existence and Reality however cruel, is alas never what it seems to be. Whispers of precious ore, ancient artefacts and ruins of ancient civilisations only lead to ruin - factions descend to lay claim to these scraps like vultures, blades quench the thirst of the land with rivers of fire, which mirror the stars from afar that flicker in isolation with an insatiable desire. Amongst the chaotic lands, a tale starts. An adventure, a mistake, a ghost, a foreigner, a world, many worlds, alliances, betrayals, intertwined fates and dangers fraught at every corner. A protagonist that isekai's into a still living being in an earnest bid to grow stronger and a pitiful soul that longs for what was once share a mysterious bond. Destiny is calling, the line between the living and dead is blurred, the powerful shape Reality, however amongst this rollercoaster of events, the shadows vie for their own nefarious purposes, for the shadows are always watching. As if life wasn't a misery as it were, it hit Zuck Borris with the roll of a die - the odds were never in his favour. Firstly, a stranger gave him the old boot - throwing his soul out to the dogs in the streets. Then a mysterious voice started talking to him. Yet it didn't seem to be doing him any favours in reclaiming his flesh and bones. Meanwhile that backstabbing fiend didn't even notice his existence and already seemed to be bringing trouble to his body. Roland, however, was as calm as the ocean bed. Some ignorant fools seemed to be scheming against him. Ever since he answered that damn call, his life seemed to become more troublesome. However, perhaps there was some part of him that smirked at this opportunity, to gain control over his life with enough strength to face all that may come his way. Who protects this Reality, that Reality and everything in between? Can a mortal man spit upon the immortal obstacle that tightens its grasp to crush all beneath it? Can the rivers burn what they touch as the worlds collide and the sun is all but lost? Are answers always to be sought? Turn that chapter if you so dare..." Disclaimers: There will be content in this webnovel that covers potential sensitive areas to some, including - violence (fighting), abusive language (swearing / cussing), concepts of self-harm (some bullied characters may consider self-harm), divide in society (different factions/ power levels) & other similar concepts that usually apply to any cultivation/ sci-fi webnovel. "Can anything be more ironic than a mortal cheapening the concept of infinity, confusing the vast with the endless. Do the drops of water in a pond compare to the stars in an endlessly growing universe?

But the folly lies not with the mortal, just as one should not expect a turtle to know how many stones make up the well it's trapped in, or a monkey to know the number of bananas in an Asda (maybe a Walmart, an Aldi or your Realities equivalent to a supermarket/ food warehouse).

What do these have in common you say? Well, these are all fools errands you see and if you try to convince a fool otherwise, well who is to say that doesn't make you an even bigger fool?

Do you try to convince a chicken it can swim? Why waste your time on a mortal that knows not of its own ignorance. How many steps can a mortal take in it's life, if that is all it devotes it's life pupose to? 4 billion, 10 billion or if we are very generous a maximum of 15 billion? Let's look at the mortal residents of REA-XXX, that is enough time and distance to walk around OBJ-PLA-BLU-XXX 285 times.

How about 2 generations of humans? 22 billion, stretching it to the maximum, perhaps 25 billion - after all the 2nd generation doesn't pop out of nowhere, it takes time to grow and there is overlap between both generations walking alongside each other. That is still within calculation. Even a mortal could devise a system to count these steps.

But things do get tricky as time passes - can mortals track progress over 10'000 generations, over 100'000 generations, over 1 million generations? Time is elusive after all. But imagine how many steps that would be millions of generations later? Just throwing a number - 12 quadrillion steps per million generations? That would be 200'000 laps around OBJ-SOL-XXX. About 0.02 light years of travel. To leave OBJ-GAL-MWA-XXX, mortals would need to travel at least 100'000 light years. Some mortals believe they have only existed for little over 300'000 generations since the start of time.

Such distances are impossible to cover by walking. Let's assume they travel in a vehicle capable of approaching light speed. Say they cover 60 million light years per 1 million generations. Mortals have not only left the galaxy they originated from, but have just about entered the next galaxy cluster (OBJ-GCL-XXX).

Seems like a large distance?

Not at all, that is only 1.23% of the observable universe, a mere 0.06% of the best estimated size of the universe.

Not to bore you with the mathematics of this all. The point is scale. At what distance do you call something infinite? Why has the word infinite lost it's value? It is simply because mortals cannot comprehend the scale of what is truly infinite. Their entire universe pertains to a singular reality. Yet there are more realities than grains of sands you could fit, from one corner of the universe to the opposite end.

Let's give the mortals some scifi powers. The size of the universe is estimated by their highly esteemed scientists at 93 billion light years wide. Mortals learn to farm xp and quickly become a level 5 civilisation. They can now harness the power of all their sub-realities and have active control over them. Given that capability, they have endless power, they can fold the fabric of the universe, tear open a gate, stabilise it, pass through it and as a gentleman should, close the door behind them, all within half an hour.

So, cooking some quick mafs, 1 trillion universes traversed in 1 million generations. Seems like a lot of area covered right?

Unfortunately, that doesn't even cover a toenails worth of distance on the Phantom Realm. An expanse vast beyond measure, truly the embodiment of infinity itself. To find out where one is, one has to be able to comprehend a smidge of the bigger picture. But to identify where you are on an infinite existence is foolish beyond intelligence.

Why bully the mortals alone, cultivators that could devistate entire XXX levels of civilisations with a fist would have no better luck. When you realise what that means, you know no despair, for anything truly immortal that chases you on the continent will eventually catchup. It may be now, it may be tomorrow, it may be 1 million generations down the line, but it will be inevitable. For you see the slicer of hunter and the prey, is the difference between which of the two displays the higher degree of patience and vigilance. And what can be more patient and vigilant than a being representative of the insanity behind infinite life.

Moving on from the land, what can we say about the people?

They say the greed of man is infinite. But is it truly? When every conceivable need of man is satisfied and the land is teeming with abundance for eons to come. Is there a need to claim more? Even more so when man knows that there are infinite resources to exploit if the need ever arises. Some order exists within the chaotic heart of man, that demands stability after greed and that requires a structure. But how can man create stability when there is overflowing stockpile?

Yes, it is as your brain has fore told - the art of gatekeeping. Drawing an artificial boundary, creating the famous sense of scarcity that gives the higher ups power. But within boundless riches, the fake scarcity is barely just a buffer - a suggestion if you will, the only obedience coming from no sense to rise against it. If there were really scarce resources, all hell would have broken loose.

The most broke person would have lived their life as a king amongst kings admist any other Reality. The kingdom of these ancestral kings was called the "Claimed Lands", a fitting name for something named by greedy "Humans".

Born to luxuriate in endless resources and live extravagent lives. Well, at least that is how history is recounted in books and folktales, and that should be true for the most part - what reason could there be to decieve oneself?

Alas, there are always two sides to any given coin. In the making of a gem, one must discard the unimportant scraps. No one cares what fate has planned for the discarded. It is part of the accepted process to bring out its true worth. Surely, the discarded portion must be useless, the eyes of the public can't be flawed?

Every yin has its yang and every rise has its fall. In this case, it seemed a mysterious power formed over time- eating away a section of what was once abundant. Forming a barrier, sectioning off a sizeable chunk of land in a deep chaotic mist birthed by the nether itself. No one knows why this part of land was chosen, other than the fact it was smack centre of the "Claimed Lands". Man fears the unknown, and the lack of knowledge only pushes humans to mysticism.

Herein this became a cursed land. A pitiful area. The curiosity of man led to the discovery, that it was easy to enter the mist, but it was extremely difficult to return out. One would imagine if one party had endless riches and they had a way to reach a place with dwindling resources, the "humanity" would kick in to offer some civil aid. Yet humans are not a species known for their kindness. It offered no value, there was no longer the status of equals, hence it was forgotten.

Who knows how many generations have passed, since this has been the case? But the resources under constant consumption of existing powers, looting from those looking to selfishly escape and the rise of many new powers has accelerated the decline. No one knows why the once bountiful land, suddenly lost its charm. Natural treasures mysteriously lost their power overnight, a dark demonic energy appeared that started to infect resources stored by cultivators, the path to stronger levels of cultivation seemed to have been severed, any herbs and cultivation resources became less effective and their growth rate was constantly declining. The earth was becoming barren and there were new demonic powers that worked to destroy what little rags they had left to fester chao.

What does that mean for the unlucky residents? It became a backwards area, where the influence of all that was good started to wear thin, humans were trapped in a shrinking cage of despair and any semblance of happiness was snuffed out. The lack of even a drop of hope forced man to revert to inherent barbaric instincts – fighting with tooth and bone for survival.

The humanity has long drained, all that is left are beasts ensnared by greed and selfishness, clawing away at each other and biding Existence. For anything born from a land believed to be cursed, by Existence itself, can only ever be seen as a bearer of that curse. No salvation can come and none from within can hope to save whatever dredges of society are left. The land is not living, there is no hero or demon that will magically save everything or destroy it. Life is, as life will always be.

Drifting by and the cycle repeats. A blip on the immortal Existence, that was the Phantom Realm. Why was the land so immense, where was this land hidden, what power trapped some humans and let others thrive and what was their goal?

Find out in the next episode of Reality."
