Chapter 2 - Failure 87 (2): My First Keeper

The First: Samuel Borebug 9 Years

A somewhat innocent fellow, he found me about a week after my creator died. He was investigating the smell as apparently forges are very quick to produce from corpses. Samuel found me laying on the ground next to the anvil beside the dead man's body. He ran away immediately and came back with a few more of the town guards before investigating the scene closer. I then attempted to influence his mind as I previously found my self capable on to my creator in past forms starting about my 23rd.

Apparently it worked as the man found himself picking me up by my hilt not even considering the blades that lay in it. Stabbing into his hand as he raised me up to look at me entranced from my effect, quite apparently he lacked will to resist. My joy grew after this week of waiting I'll be used finally and I'll bring about the invasion, I'll finally be a success.

I didn't exactly know how I would exactly urge him to use me. My creator always just picked me up and swung me with no results immediately after finishing my creation. Unfortunately Samuel didn't easily oblige and do it right off the bat and set me down after struggling to pull the blades out of his hand with a friends assistance once he returned to his home.

They discussed something or other, I wasn't paying attention at the time but looking back on it now it was something about whether or not to get rid of me or to keep it till they could find an appraiser. Doesn't matter either way cause they chose the latter of course, as they should. After a couple days I got a little fed up waiting to see if I'd be a success or not so I urged him into the room subtly and had him wield me once more the imbecile.

He swung. And it worked, there it was. A rift in space itself. It worked, I was a success, I had finally been a success! I finally fulfilled my great purpose, these petty humans were all going to die. Oh creator I succeeded look at me ha you died after torturing me so ruining my form and now I've finally succeeded the second you were gone ha I'll see you through this portal soon enough and see your mortified face that not you but some simple town folk was the one who made the rift.....

...Where were the demons? Samuel stood there frozen yes but theirs no demonic spear piercing him causing it, no demonic anything. The portal was just there or something. Perchance the demons were just slow to realize that it had opened and I was a success.

So we waited there for a bit... It was quite agitating even, the demons I had sacrificed myself so much for were going too slow on their side of the process. Impatient I urged Samuel to move his lazy butt through the dang thing so they could see the human and realize the purpose of the rift.

He went through alright.... And the thing I was telling myself constantly in my head that I might have failed, that I was just another failure like all my previous forms came to the forefront. A possibility I had completely ignored, after all this was special, my creator had died in my making this time and I had a new wielder.

Well as you might have assumed that very possibility was indeed the case.

It was just a normal portal. Led to some random piece of the woods nearby or something. I was a failure, the 87th no less...

...Ok...

Samuel was a young lad who work as a local guard. He was considered nice by the nearby populace and was popular the female of his species. After swinging me once he became a bit obsessed with me despite me stopping my urging almost entirely. He largely refrained from using me however due to the blades that stab into his hand when doing so. The village he worked in was a small one but only a few miles from the capital due to my creators tactical choice of where to work on his creation. It was a relatively rambunctious place but it's most intriguing feature was a small library Samuel frequented. While I urged sparsely with my first wielder, it was always about acquiring more information on the land of my birth and learning the basic concepts of Gia.

There was one point where some dragon came into town wreaking havoc, it was fleeing from the armies in the capitol or something. Samuel of course as a town guard joined the battle against the dragon. During said battle he slew it creating a portal in the dragons path as it dove for him and closing it as the dragon was partway through. A classic instant kill method. I (+ Samuel) was revered as a hero by the people and received a generous reward from the local earl.

Using the money he bought some armor and other equipment before setting out to be and adventurer. I didn't want to and would rather stay reading in the library but couldn't do anything when he built up that much will to do something else. He was extremely weak to say the least, without my use he could hardly fend off a single goblin much less slay a troll. He had to lean on my usage and luck quite often throughout his journeys which led to his downfall later on.

Of his travels there was little remarkable but there was a frost giant whom had become an adapt mage. He had kept a book that held a vast wealth of history, that of which I was very keen to obtain. In my youth I had a little bit of an interest with learning the history of the past that dominated my decision making. So I had my naive little wielder seek out and battle the giant to claim the book and the other far less interesting stuff in its treasury.

We won of course. But in the most cowardly way as Samuel simply snuck up on the creature sliced it and ran. Of my abilities I had a corrosion effect that slowly eroded organic matter away. He returned and claimed the loot the next day after the giant had since passed from the effect. With the rest of the loot we claimed the book and begun reading it that very night. There was some boring ring with a black onyx my wielder wanted quite badly. Now that I'm looking back on it I swear looks familiar. Never figured out why he wanted it either with him dying about a week later.

He got ravaged by wolves during the night cause of the most stupid decisions ever. For the longest time he had assumed my urging ability would activate and wake him up like I was an alarm bell or something. So he took zero precautions with going to sleep completely vulnerable to an ambush. And ambushed he was by a pack of normal wolves who didn't even sneak up on him they just came over noticed him and jumped the idiot. I'm surprised he was able to hold out as an adventurer for a full 6 of our 9 years together.

I found many things while with him. I found that I had a true interest In learning of that which came before me, and that the books and locations its collected in are my favorite within the world. I've come to desire to return to that first library now, as it was the first to touch me so. Even if it is long since gone from my time writing this.
