Chapter 49 - A Chance

"So… he had asked me for marriage." Abi concluded as she held the cup of tea tightly in her hands. Nell had been so happy to see cakes. But as Abi started to tell her the events of the past few days, she had forgotten to eat most of them.

Now her eyes were bulged larger than saucers and her mouth agape. "So do you believe in this tale?" 

Nell licked her lips as she searched for better words. Found none as she shook her head and sighed. "No offense, Abi. I am happy if a rich bloke is marrying you. But…. isn't it too extreme that you could be the lost daughter of a duke? Not just any noble but a duke. What was a duke doing in the Grothem town anyways? I am sure Aunt never left that town." she was sure too. If her mother had been to other places, she would have mentioned it at least once. But she never told Abi that she had been to other places.
