The Biblical city of Byblos is located in Lebanon. According to Christianity, Jesus Christ performed his first miracles in Sidon, Lebanon.
Here he miraculously turned water into the wine. Lebanon's capital Beirut is called Phoenix City. Beirut has been destroyed 7 times since ancient times and rebuilt 7 times. The original inhabitants of Lebanon are called Phoenicians.
The Phoenicians were followers of the Canaanite religion, worshiping the gods and goddesses Baal, Astarte, and Melkert.
There were huge temples to these three gods and goddesses in ancient Beirut and various parts of Lebanon.
Canaanite religious priests could perform various forms of magic and miracles. They could make any substance move with the gesture of their eyes, change the flow of river water, they could even read people's minds.
The Phoenician priestly community received these powers as a blessing from these three gods and goddesses.
