Raina walked over to me and grabbed my shoulder before I felt like an invisible weight was lifted off my shoulder. We then slowly lifted into the air while she turned us toward the town.
Then, without warning, I felt the pull of gravity shift to be in front of us and far stronger than normal. Soon, we were soaring through the sky with the pull of gravity constantly remaining in front of us.
While this happened I shifted my body in such a way as to reduce drag and to prepare for the imminent free fall.
The wait for the free fall did not last long, though as soon the strange pull of gravity disappeared and the original reasserted itself. Combined with the speed we were traveling, we ended up shooting forward through the air at an angle of interception with the ground.
Thankfully, Raina anticipated that we would need to enter free fall earlier than I thought, and the scripture hall was in front of us.
With that, I angled toward the building and started trying to control my fall.
I was not able to do everything that I wanted, but I was still able to glide forward for a while before getting to the perfect point.
Angling forward and closing my arms, I then started dropping toward the ground rapidly. The fall still lasted for a little while before I needed to pull the ripcord on the parachute.
When I did, I heard the sound of fabric flying in the wind and then felt a tug from the backpack as it nearly halted my fall. Above me, a large rectangle of fabric was unfolded and billowing with the air filling it. This rectangle of fabric was also made of multiple open-ended boxes that let air pass through unimpeded so that I would have more control over my landing spot.
Gliding through the air, I landed in front of the scripture hall and quickly put the parachute into my inventory before it could hit the ground.
Raina then landed right next to me without a sound.
Looking around the entrance of the scripture hall, I could see one of the elders sitting next to the door and some of the disciples walking in and out of the hall.
Getting excited by the opportunity to analyze more texts and do more research on a few of the things that I wanted to do I could not help but feel my tail wagging around at a fast pace.
I then felt a familiar touch between my ears and calmed down slightly.
Looking next to me, I saw Mom watching me with a smile on her face and her tail swaying around slightly faster.
Looking back towards the elder, I walked towards them to ask for permission to enter.
When I got about thirty feet from them, they looked up at me, and I was able to see who they were.
This elder was the same one who insisted that I go through a test to enter the sect and she did not seem happy to see me here.
While I stopped to think about who she was, she spoke up and said, "You are not allowed to enter."
This statement caused me to freeze and ask, "Might I ask why I can't?"
Somehow, this caused her face to darken before she said, "Because those who get into the sect using their connections don't deserve to do so."
Her words caused me to get confused, so I tilted my head and asked, "What do you mean?"
At this point, her face went black, and she spat out, "I mean that you are not allowed in!"
Her shout caused my ears to start ringing and my mind to get even more confused.
Raina then stepped forward and pulled out a medallion, showing it to her while asking, "Would I be able to take her in?"
The elder did not even look at the medallion and said, "Who are you, and why do you think that this false sect token can fool me!? I have never seen a token like this! Now get out of here and don't interrupt me again unless you want to be punished along with this cowardly woman!"
The more that she spoke, the darker Raina's face got, but before she could do anything, the elder from the library appeared next to her. He then reached forward and grabbed her by the back of her neck, holding her in place. Turning to Raina, he then said, "I am sorry for not teaching her properly, Founder. I will make sure to fix this.
"You may also enter the scripture hall, but she won't be able to take any of the techniques as she currently does not have any contribution points. However, she will be able to borrow any of the books pertaining to knowledge, such as the Introduction to Formation and the Glossary of Herbs and Special Resources.
"This is sect laws that you had established yourself, and according to your words, 'If we allow these to be broken, then what use are they in the first place.'"
The look Raina had on her face after hearing this was amazing, and I secretly increased my evaluation of the library elder by a few notches.
Raina nodded to the library elder and then grabbed me by the shoulder, pulling me into the scripture hall.
After entering, she continued to pull me around until we reached a new section labeled information. This section was not that big compared to the others, but it was still large, with a lot of books placed all over the place.
Running forward between the shelves, I started to read all of their spines and remembering their places for when I would start grabbing books to borrow.
There were so many books that I spent well over half an hour going over each of their spines and marking which books I wanted to take with me.
If I had the option would have taken a copy of each book, but I was still limited by size and could only choose about half of them.
When I finished, I turned around to start collecting the books when I saw Raina with a bunch of books floating behind her. All of them were the ones that I had marked out and wanted to borrow.
With that, we moved back to the entrance of the scripture hall and found out that the person watching the door had changed to a core disciple who was marked as a personal disciple of one of the elders.
I did not know which elder they were a disciple of, but they processed the amount of books that I was borrowing at a fast speed, allowing us to leave quickly.
Outside of the scripture hall, Raina handed me all the books, and I placed them in my inventory. She then placed her hand on my shoulder, and I felt the same sensations that flying with her brings.
This return trip felt the same as the journey to the scripture hall did, only this time we did not free fall to the grounds and let her land like she normally would.
When we landed, I ran off toward the library to place down all the books I had just collected and started to organize them according to the importance of their research topics.
That lasted for a few hours due to all the books that I had and the broad topics of the random books. However, like the old plan stated, I would need to look into the topics of spells and formations. After those two, there were also the topics of alchemy and blacksmithing.
Unlike spells and formations, I already had some idea of what blacksmithing and alchemy were like and how they would be useful, so I placed them at the bottom of the pile.
The most important, however, were the books pertaining to the history and the basics of cultivation.
With these books, I would be able to stop blindly stumbling about and actually learn a thing or two about the world I was now in.
Finishing my work in the library, I moved over to the actual house where Yuki had finished dinner, and I enjoyed the steak she had cooked to almost perfection.
When that was done, I was then whisked away by Raina again as my tail and hair had gotten extremely messy after the flying and free fall from earlier today. This meant that as I reached her room, I was almost immediately chucked into the bath, and Raina soon followed attacking my tail at the same time.
This went on for a while before the bath finally ended, and I found myself on Mom's lap again, with her taking care of my tail once more.
This constant brushing led me to calm down and relax, entering the same meditation state as earlier.
What I did not know at this time was that I would be going through this same routine every night for the next few weeks.
