As Johanna spotted the smoke coming from the forest, she told the shapeshifter about it immediately, and once he saw it too, they approached the smoke from the sky to get a better overview of the situation.
As they got closer to the smoke, they could spot that a few human-sized spiders had come out of the hole, but no other bigger and more dangerous spiders.
"Do you want to see something funny?"
"Well, if you want to show me something, I'm open for it."
Johanna observed the Shapeshifter flying up at a rapid pace, gaining altitude at a rapid pace. Once he was a few hundred metres above her and at least 3 kilometres off the ground, he began shape-shifting his body. He gradually lost his wings and started dropping from the enormous height. Johanna began worrying about his well-being, but once he hustled past her at an incredible pace, she saw what he had transformed himself into. He took on the appearance of a giant iron ball. The ball had a diameter of approximately 4 metres. Johanna didn't know if the concept of a cannon was already invented in this world, but she was sure that he was, at this moment, the most powerful human-made object on this continent. She followed the giant cannonball on his journey towards the spiders and the hole. The shapeshifter accelarated at an incredible speed until he hit the ground with an unbelievably big and loud explosion.
As he smashed into the ground, he killed numerous spiders who were crawling out of the ground. Johanna tried to slow her descent but was hit by the shockwave of the impact and fell out of the sky. She wasn't injured heavily, so she just started turning back into her original human female form to fight off the few spiders who had survived the attack from the shapeshifter. She took her time again, but she noticed that she had gotten considerably faster than before. After she was done shifting back into a human, she began to approach the hole where the spiders were coming from.
Once she arrived at the hole, she spotted the shapeshifter, who was still in the form of a giant cannonball.
"So, how was my performance?"
"Well, interesting to say the least. How about you stay here as the iron ball until I kill every single spider that has escaped, and after that, we can fill up that hole for real?"
"Ok, but please hurry up. I don't like the thought of spiders crawling all over my body, even though I'm only a metal ball right now."
"I will hurry up, I promise."
Johanna left to find the giant spiders that had escaped from the cave, and to help her with that, she turned into a bird again, but this time not the size of a regular one but the size with a wingspan as big as two adult humans. Taking off was a challenge for her, but she succeeded after trying for a while, and soon she was soaring above the forest, scanning the area for any signs of the giant spiders. With her keen eyesight that was improved through her eagle eyes, she spotted a few of them lurking in the shadows of the trees, their dark forms moving stealthily through the undergrowth.
Diving down towards them, Johanna felt a surge of determination coursing through her veins. She swooped in, her claws outstretched, and began to attack the spiders with ferocity. They hissed and scuttled, trying to defend themselves, but Johanna was relentless in her assault against them. One by one, she killed the spiders, her wings beating against the air as she fought. It was a fierce battle, but Johanna refused to back down. With each kill, she felt a sense of satisfaction wash over her.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, the last of the giant spiders lay defeated at her feet. Breathing heavily, Johanna surveyed the clearing, ensuring that no more threats remained. The transformation into the giant bird took more of her magial power than she expected. Satisfied and sure that the area was safe again, she transformed back into her human form and made her way back to the hole where the shapeshifter had been waiting for her.
"Are you finally done?"
He asked as she approached, and Johanna nodded as a response.
"All taken care of. The forest should be spider-free now."
The shapeshifter let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank God. I couldn't stand the thought of being stuck in this form any longer."
Together, they worked to fill the hole with dirt and boulders, sealing it off to prevent any more spiders from emerging out of it. As they worked, Johanna couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment in what they had done today.
