Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Phantom’s Recipe

The rain fell in gentle sheets, a soft rhythm that echoed through the quiet streets of the small village nestled at the foot of a misty mountain. The lanterns lining the cobbled paths flickered with a golden hue, casting long shadows over the town.

In the heart of the village stood an unassuming apothecary—its wooden sign swaying with the wind, reading "Mizushima's Remedies." The shop was known for its quiet charm, offering herbs and potions to soothe the aches of the villagers. But beneath its humble exterior, something stirred in the shadows, waiting for its moment.

Inside, the smell of dried herbs and fragrant flowers filled the air. Shelves upon shelves of glass bottles and jars lined the walls, their contents glowing softly in the dim light. At the counter, a young woman hunched over a pile of papers, her fingers tracing the faded ink of an old journal. Her name was Miki Mizushima, and though she was just eighteen, the weight of responsibility had already fallen heavily on her shoulders.

Her parents had vanished three years ago, leaving the apothecary—and its mysteries—behind. Their disappearance had been swift, without a trace. Not even the authorities could uncover the truth. Miki's heart ached at the thought of them, but she knew that the work they'd left behind must continue. It was all she had left of them.

As she turned another page of the journal, something caught her eye. A faded recipe, written in delicate script, stood out among the notes.

"The Phantom's Dish: For the soul bound in sorrow."

The words were cryptic, and the recipe itself seemed impossible—ingredients that didn't exist in her world. But one line stood out to Miki like a beacon:

"The one who cooks this dish shall summon the Phantom Chef."

Her fingers trembled as she traced the text. Was this a message? A clue to her parents' disappearance? Or perhaps something more—a key to a long-buried secret?

A sudden chill swept through the room, causing Miki to shiver. She looked up, startled. The door creaked open, and the wind howled through the shop, extinguishing the candles on the counter. But in the darkness that followed, a figure appeared, tall and shadowed, his presence like a storm moving through the room.

"Looking for something?" a voice, smooth yet faintly hollow, echoed through the silence.

Miki's heart skipped a beat. She froze, unable to speak, as the figure stepped forward, his eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. He was no ordinary man, and she knew it immediately.

The Phantom Chef had arrived.
