IMOGEN'S POV
I gripped my sheets tightly, staring at Isaac as I braced myself for the inevitable rejection. Part of me expected him to discard me immediately after what we'd just done. I waited, tensed, for him to tell me he didn't care about me - that this had all been some sort of revenge against his brother.
But instead, Isaac surprised me. He pulled me close, wrapping his arms around me and stroking my hair gently. "How are you?" he murmured, his voice soft and filled with genuine concern.
I paused, taking a moment to examine my feelings. I searched for the guilt I thought I should be experiencing - the shame that surely must come after having an affair with my brother-in-law. But try as I might, I couldn't find it. There was no remorse, no regret. Just a strange sense of calm and rightness.
"I'm alright," I replied quietly, nestling closer to him.
