In the world of Gaia, there is a lot of different species that don't exist on Earth besides games and RPG's, like dragons, orcs, elves, dwarves and a lot more. This resemblance is caused by the different universes having a mystical connection, that allows Avani's species to interact with Earth and allowed their humans to know about them since ancient times, but this is a story for another time.
The Ancient Gods like the Nordics, Celtics and Greeks have their own planets in the universe called Avani, were they rule in their own skies and give blessings to mortals and other species of ther liking, giving them power.
Gaia is the living-planet were the Greek gods were born and ruled for a long time, until a mysterious catastrophe happened almost a millenia ago, wipping out nearly every god from the planet, causing the downfall of many kingdoms and Empires that depended on these blessings, being called the Second World Catastrophe (as she happened only some decades after the First World Catastrophe). And of course, this is also a story for another time.
One of the few divine survivors of the catastrophe was Héstia, known in Earth as the Godess of Homes and Hearths, but much more powerful in Gaia's territory. She blessed a human's clan called Fiamma Clan with supernatural strenght, as well as Fire and Sun Magic, which allowed them to survive a nomad life and later on, after stablishing themselves on the southern region of the Ocidental Continent, rule all over the ocident of Gaia.

The actual topography is very similar to Earth, with the Ocidental Continent similar to the American one. The Fiamma Clan, for example, resided in the southest part of the Continent, constantly at war with the Elfic Empire for dominance, with their borders always being engulfed little by little to the elves; Their Empire lived and ruled half of the north, bordering with the Simnthary Republic at the extreme north, a large country that accepts all races. The earth corridor called Great Passage connects the Simnthary Republic with the Oriental Continent; in the Great Passage orcs lived in tribes, crimes and assassinations ruled and merchants, mercenaries and guilds flourished.
After the Great Passage was the Dragon Kingdom, where the few dragons still alive ruled and lived peacefully away from politics and other species; the rest of the continent was in the full power of the Demon Empire, ruled by demons that slaved all the other species, even the darkness species similar to them, like undeads, vampires, werewolves, and dark elves. And finally there was The Islands, a giant cluster of islands between the continents: they were inhabited by various magical creatures, rogue dwarves and fairies.
Sorry, I lost focus while explaining, didn't I? It must be my age heaving on me... Anyways, let me continue.
The Second Catastrophe made the birth of sorcerers and the creation of mages hard and rare, maybe because the god's blessing ended or the decrease of world mana after their deaths, it is uncertain.
This phenomenon became more frequent between humans during the centuries, who had the least mana and magical power between the others. This was the cause of the constant loss of territory of the Fiamma Clan to the Elfic Empire; even Héstia being still alive and giving them blessings, it seemed that somehow the Catastrophe affected her strenght or ability of giving blessings, but the direct descendants of the clan and heirs for the rule where still quite powerful, garanting the clan's survival.
Until Helena Fiamma was born.
Being born in a matriarcal system was supposed to allow her to inherit the position of Matriarch in the future, as women were more talented in magic than men. And as they put magic above anything, she was supposed to have a bright future ahead. But something happened for the first time in whole Gaia: a child was born completely magicless, and a girl at that!
