He stood at the door, for a split second, not daring to push it open.
All the sounds around him seemed to fade away, even his heartbeat seemed to halt. He closed his eyes gently and pushed open the door softly.
The scene he had imagined was not what he saw, everything in the room was calm. He called out softly, "Xixi?"
"..." No response.
Lu Yebai took a step forward, looking at the warm bedroom in the sunlight, slowly closing his eyes.
Meng Xi'er wasn't here.
She hadn't died.
This perhaps was the silver lining in this grave situation.
The sensation in his body slowly returned, Lu Yebai slowly turned around, letting out a soft sigh.
Thankfully, the situation hadn't reached a point of no return.
"Mr. Lu," someone entered from outside, "all eleven people are dead, no survivors."
Lu Yebai nodded slightly, "I see."
He went quiet for a moment, then asked, "Did the perpetrator leave anything behind?"
"Nothing as of now."
