"We're from the Major Crimes Unit; our boss wants to interrogate you. Come with us." As they spoke, the two of them stepped forward to take hold of her.
"But I was just interrogated this afternoon!" Bai Xue resisted.
"When we say we're going to interrogate you, we will. Cut the excess talk!" They forcibly dragged her away.
Bai Xue shouted, but no one responded.
Something was very strange about today. At a minimum, there should've been six officers on duty, yet none were present, and she was hustled all the way into the interrogation room.
They forced her into a chair.
The person interrogating her was a stranger.
"Bai Xue, how did you poison him? Where did you get the poison? Be honest!"
"Who are you to interrogate me? I demand to see my lawyer," Bai Xue stared back at him, his violent gaze making her frown.
"Resisting will lead to severe punishment, confession to leniency!" It was as if he hadn't heard her words.
"I want to see my lawyer," Bai Xue again demanded.
"Since you don't seem to be cooperating, don't blame us for what happens next." A signal from the man sitting opposite her, and the two men holding her took firm control.
"Torturing someone to confess is illegal!" Bai Xue warned.
"Since ancient times, which courthouse hasn't used torture? Would you confess without it?" The man laughed coldly.
"I am Bai Xue, not a common citizen you can arbitrarily force into confession!" Bai Xue reminded them of her status.
"The monarch breaking the law bears the same crime as the common people!" he claimed with an air of strict impartiality.
Bai Xue's eyebrows furrowed.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
"Do you plead guilty?"
"Where would I get the guilt from?"
With a signal from the man, Bai Xue's head was forced down onto the table with a loud thud.
The impact blurred her vision and made her head spin.
She stared at the man defiantly, she would pay him back if she got the chance!
"Attack her until she confesses!"
The next day, Su Yan arrived to pick up his wife, Mrs. Su.
Instead of living comfortably and being well looked after, Mrs. Su was in a battered state, bloody and limp in a corner.
His anger surged at the sight.
The prison warden, who arrived with Su Yan, was also taken aback by the scene.
In shock, he shouted, "What happened here?"
"What happened? Isn't that my question to you?" Su Yan turned to her, his handsome face now resembling a demon's.
"I don't know what happened! I swear it has nothing to do with me!" The warden hurried to shake her head. Even if she were a hundred times braver, she wouldn't dare to do such a thing!
Nothing to do with it? His wife was hurt in here, and that had everything to do with her! She wouldn't get off easily.
Su Yan approached Bai Xue, his emotions indescribable. He had seen her in many states but had never seen her like this.
In such a dire state, bloody and lifeless, she lay there as though dead.
It was unnerving.
Yes, he was anxious, even scared. Scared that if he moved closer, he'd find she had stopped breathing.
If she were dead, what would he do? What would he do?
He realized he'd do something horrific.
He checked for her breath; she was still breathing, and he exhaled.
When Bai Xue woke up, she found herself in a hospital.
"Su Yan?" She was surprised to see him there.
"Should I be glad that my wife still recognizes me?" Su Yan joked.
"You're alright?" Joy filled Bai Xue's eyes.
"You're the one who isn't alright," Su Yan said grumpily, feeling unreasonably restless.
"I…" Before Bai Xue could finish that she felt alright, the delayed pain hit her body. She frowned, her memory returning with the ache.
