Without her voice, the room was eerily silent until the arrival of the police.
"Mrs. Su, Bai Xue?" The policeman confirmed her identity.
"Yes." Bai Xue stepped forward, eager to ask about the results of their examination.
Yet she was stopped by the cold grip of handcuffs.
"Excuse me, what does this mean?" Bai Xue was surprised, but she didn't panic.
"Bai Xue, we have evidence suspecting you of the murder of Mr. Su Yan. Please come with us to the station!"
"You have evidence that I murdered my husband?" Bai Xue raised her eyebrows. What evidence? Let's hear it then!
"After testing, it was determined that Mr. Su was poisoned by the food you prepared."
"I ate the food as well." Bai Xue refuted.
Why was she fine?
"Are you sure you ate all the dishes Mr. Su did?"
The policeman's words made Bai Xue frown.
She didn't. There were two dishes today that Su Yan particularly liked. He always finished all of it and placed the dishes in front of him during the meal, not allowing her to have a bite. Was it because of those two dishes?
From the selection of ingredients to serving, it was all handled by her, who would have a chance to poison the food?
Or were the ingredients problematic?
"Also, we found these in your room." The policeman held up two bottles she was familiar with.
"Those are my painkillers and sleeping pills."
"Yes, they did contain those drugs initially, but not now. The bottles are now filled with the poison which was used to harm Mr. Su."
At this point, Bai Xue was sure, she was being framed.
Someone was trying to kill two birds with one stone, to cut off both husband and wife.
Who was it?
Who was this impatient!
It was one thing to frame her, but daring to harm her Mr. Su!
Su Yan called her Mrs. Su in jest.
But Bai Xue called him Mr. Su with suppressed love.
The police made moves to take Bai Xue back to the station.
"There must be some misunderstanding! Xiao Xue would never harm my grandson!" Su Dongkun stood in the way, defending Bai Xue.
"Dad, what's the point of siding with her now! If it wasn't her, who else could it be? She certainly feared Yan would go against the Bai Clan, and thought if Yan died, the Su's would be hers. So she decided to poison Yan!"
Su Ruohan's words established Bai Xue's motive for murder.
Bai Xue merely wanted to laugh. This lady sure was something, instantly figuring out her supposed criminal motive.
She looked at Su Ruohan, making her feel guilty under her gaze.
Was she guilty because of what she just said, or because she was the one who orchestrated everything?
If Su Yan died and she was jailed on murder charges, who would benefit the most?
Aside from Su Ruohan and her son Cheng Tianhao, there was no one else.
The look Bai Xue gave her became progressively sharper.
"Why are you glaring at me! Do you think by giving me the evil eye, you'll be off the hook?" Su Ruohan felt emboldened, thinking Bai Xue was headed for prison with no chance of escape.
Bai Xue only smiled, said nothing. Without evidence, her words carried no weight and might scare off the real culprit.
Even if Su Dongkun, Su Yan's grandfather, staked his life to guarantee that Bai Xue was not the murderer, the police took her away.
"Xiao Xue, don't be afraid, I'm here, I'll find a way to clear your name!" Su Dongkun assured her.
"Grandfather, you also don't need to worry too much, they can't pin something I didn't do on me, that's impossible!" She would let them know how unwise a decision it was to frame her!
