"I can back off and stop meddling in the Bai Clan's affairs in future." For the first time in his life, Su Yan was ceding ground.
"My grandfather has already guaranteed me this." His retreat would not make any difference.
"Bai Xue!" Su Yan was infuriated, outraged by her ingratitude when he had already conceded so much!
"Does President Su think that I ought to be kowtowing in gratitude because you backed off?" Bai Xue's lips curled up in a cynical smile.
With a look of self-righteousness, Su Yan thought that having lived over twenty years, he had never conceded to anyone. Him backing off for someone like her, she should absolutely be thanking him profusely!
"President Su, not everything in this world is yours, and not everyone is someone that you can handle!"
His handsome face turned iron at her words. The arrogant Su Yan could not stand being talked down to by someone he considered weak and easily crushed.
Laughing ironically instead of being angry, he said, "I really underestimated you, Miss Bai."
Bai Xue gave a gentle, captivating smile, "It's good that you realized."
"Bai Xue, we'll wait and see!"
When Su Yan left, his gaze was shadowy and terrifying.
Xiao Ai stormed in like a whirlwind, "CEO Bai, are you alright?"
Bai Xue lifted her head, "I'm fine."
"God! How can you say you're fine in a situation like this!"
Xiao Ai's shocked expression made Bai Xue look into the mirror, where she saw that her jaw was frighteningly red.
"President Su is really a bastard!"
"I'll get some ice!"
Feeling the ice's cool comfort against her skin, Bai Xue simultaneously felt a heart-piercing pain. It felt eerily similar to the feelings Su Yan gave her.
Su Yan, thinking about him unsettled her heart.
If she didn't have to leave due to some unforeseen circumstances that morning years ago, which allowed Bai Wanrou to step in and become his girlfriend, would their relationship have not ended up like this?
Or perhaps, if she had been more ruthless back then and ignored him, would the events of that one night not have taken place, saving her from falling this deep?
Bai Xue's thoughts were interrupted by a call.
"Xue, what's going on? How come you're marrying Su Yan?" Upon their return from abroad, Wang Ningjing and Lu Yiyi heard about Bai Xue's impending marriage to Su Yan and called her.
"Let's meet at the usual place at noon." Bai Xue hung up the phone and touched her chin vexedly. She should have broken the news on the phone. Seeing her in this state would only worry them.
She picked up the ice she'd kept on the table and continued to apply it, hoping that her jaw wouldn't look so terrifying a few hours later .
Their meet up spot was at a timeless-looking coffee shop. Its walls were covered with ivy, it had a red wooden gate, a lazy little cat at the entrance, and an ambiance that was comfortably familiar.
