People thought that with the conclusive evidence, Bai Xue would be convicted, but Bai Xue's excellent lawyer, somehow managed to discredit the compelling evidence; to secure a conviction for Bai Xue, even more substantial evidence was needed.
Meanwhile, news from the hospital suggested that Su Yan was showing signs of regaining consciousness, and it was highly likely that he would wake up in the next few days.
These two pieces of news greatly upset Su Ruohan. She had thought she might be able to take advantage of the situation, but it seemed like all her efforts might be in vain!
"Mom, what's the matter?" Cheng Tianhao asked, seeing his mother sighing heavily.
"Bai Xue is going unpunished, and Su Yan is about to wake up. Your mother's dreams are going down the drain." How could she not be upset?
"Su Yan is about to wake up? Didn't they say that he was severely poisoned?" Cheng Tianhao was somewhat surprised.
"That boy is just lucky, twice he has been on the brink of death and survived!" Su Ruohan sighed.
Su Yan, the successor of the Su Family, had an enviable life from childhood, but it was also fraught with danger. Su Yan's survival during various threats to his life was nothing short of miraculous.
"He must be what they call the 'Chosen One.'" Cheng Tianhao sarcastically remarked.
"What 'Chosen One?' He is just a bastard who schemed his way into the Su Family!"
Su Yan's mother was pregnant before their marriage, and Su Ruohan looked down on her. She has always suspected that Su Yan is not a legitimate son of the Su Family and therefore shouldn't inherit the Su family fortune. She thought her son, Cheng Tianhao, was the only rightful heir.
"Regardless, since grandfather acknowledged him, he is the heir to the Su Family." Cheng Tianhao's voice was flavored with resentment.
"Your grandfather is nothing but a senile old man!" Su Ruohan was frustrated with her father for favoring an supposed illegitimate son over the rightful heir.
The veil of nightfall often serves as the perfect cover for many clandestine activities.
"Director Wang, you're on duty tonight!" Su Yan's bodyguard greeted the newcomer as he approached.
"Yes, I'm here to check on Mr. Su's condition."
"Director Wang, please remove your mask." The bodyguards were diligent in their duties.
Director Wang and the nurse accompanying him removed their masks. Only after the bodyguards had confirmed their identities, did they let them in.
After examining Su Yan, Director Wang lowered his head to write notes. While he was distracted, the nurse added a mysterious substance to Su Yan's IV drip. She thought she was acting silently, but a pinhole camera caught her every move.
Shortly after leaving the ward, the nurse excused herself to go to the bathroom and moved to the top floor of the hospital.
Waiting for her there was a tall figure.
She eagerly approached.
"Sweetheart, how did it go?" The man softly embraced her.
"I added it. Mr. Su should never wake up." The nurse was both terrified and exhilarated.
"Well done, Sweetheart. You will be the Chairwoman soon."
A light shone from the building across, illuminating the man's face. His sweet voice didn't match his sinister expression.
"Tianhao, I did this for you. You better not betray me." She had paid a huge price for him. If he dared deceive her, she would strip him of everything he had!
If she thought of using this to threaten Cheng Tianhao, wouldn't he, a man of cunning mind, have thought of it as well?
He managed to kill Su Yan with great difficulty; he can't allow himself to be manipulated by a woman. While embracing her, he quietly moved towards the edge.
In this world, there's only one kind of person who can know your secrets but can't threaten you: the dead!
