Riley
I hurriedly dressed up in a black pants, muttering thanks to the goddess for blessing me with a small bosom, as if knowing it'd ever come to this. I wore a sports bra beneath my big red sweatshirt. Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I nodded my head, liking what I saw.
I dragged my box outside where I saw Clinton already waiting for me. He took the box from me and waited for me to go before him, then I remembered something I had not done.
"I'll be back in five, I have to do this." I muttered before dashing back into the house. I ran to the kitchen where I met Miss Gomez preparing breakfast.
"Good morning, Riley. Hope you slept well?" She said, smiling at me.
I nodded, and leaned against the refrigerator. "Good morning ma'am, I did sleep well." I swallowed, watching as she paused on what she was doing. Lots of opened spices were on the counter before her and she was simply mashing them inside the pot.
"Actually, I wanted to ask you if you could look after the kids. I know that the Alpha is there but, you know what they like and I don't know if you could watch out for them."
I didn't know when she came to stand beside me. She placed both palms on my shoulder, squeezing them in assurance. "The Alpha already explained it to me. And even without telling me, I'd always look after the kids." She smiled.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I wiped them away. "I knew I could count on you. Thank you so much Miss Gomez." I hugged her tight before she gently pushed me away, chuckling.
"You have to go now dear, else, the alpha will come here and scold me for keeping you."
I laughed at that. "He wouldn't do that, I promise you. Bye, I'll take my leave now."
I walked towards the door as she called after me, "Take care of yourself there. Kick their asses if you have to."
I giggled, "Alright, ma'am. I'll do that."
'And even kick their jaw if they try any nonsense.' Jenna added, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"What took you so long?" Clinton asked as I stepped outside, he was still holding onto my box with a frown rested upon his face.
"Miss Gomez wanted me to kiss their ass if they troubled me." I shrugged.
"And will you?" He searched my face, probably looking for any sign of discomfort and let out a forced smile.
"There's someone who wants to see you before you leave." Just after he said that, I caught the appearance of Alex. He was wearing a white shirt this time around, with only the first button left open, paired with dark blue pants and black shoes.
"You look gorgeous in your new outfit." Alex said, with a hint of wonder in his tone.
I bobbed my head to my left, regarding him. "You cleaned up nice yourself."
Alex threw his head backwards, bubbling into laughter. "I always look good. Here, have this. You can look into it once you get there." He handed me the file of King Amos and my laptop which I had forgotten in my office.
Alex went on and briefed me on things he thought I should know, reminding me to always update him on things and ask for help if ever I needed one. I assured him that I would not, letting him know that I could actually take care of myself.
Clinton drove us to the airport and Alex and I discussed our previous cases, using that to take my mind off things. Clinton was quiet all through the drive, and I didn't know what to say so I kept my mouth shut.
Soon, we got to the airport and they both hugged me and bade goodbye.
"Remember, once you decide you can't handle them, call me and I'll be more than pleased to come pick you up." Clinton told me, and I nodded in response, hoping I'd heed to his advice.
Five hours later,
The flight to the Crimson Shadow Pack soon came to an end when the flight attendant announced the plane was about to land.
"Sit tight, secure your seatbelts and brace yourselves for the plane is about to land."
The plane landed in three minutes and after I checked out, I called Alex to let him know I had arrived there already. He promised to inform one of the kings and have him send someone to pick me up. I knew my way around, but I decided going to the pack house myself would raise suspicion so I decided to wait.
A bright red Camry car stopped two feets in front of me, and a young man about my age stepped down. He was good looking in a sort of way, and had a mustache growing on his chin.
He stopped before me and looked down on my box. "Are you Cole? The man I was asked to pick?"
I was startled at the name. I reprimanded myself for forgetting the fake name I would be using now.
'Get back on track girl, don't mess things up.' Jenna scolded with a scowl.
I forced a smile, "Yeah, I'm the one. And you are?" I asked, in any other circumstances I'd have offered him a handshake but I didn't want him to feel the softness of my hands so my smile became awkward.
"Philip. The pack's beta." He smiled and gestured to my box. "I'd take it as we can leave now? The kings are waiting for you."
Of course, they were. I scoffed.
"Sure, there's nothing to do here anyway. We might as well head now." I let him carry my bag, and I opened the door of the passenger seat, sitting down and tucking the seatbelt around me.
After he had put my box in the back seat, he climbed on the driver seat and sped down the road. The street was still the way it was when I was still here, in fact, there seemed to be no changes since I left. The trees, the buildings were pretty much the same except for the new buildings here and there.
Soon, we arrived at the pack house. The mansion looked newer than the last I saw of it. Maybe it had been renovated or it could be my eyes deceiving me. The maids acknowledged us with a nod and as we started towards the front door, I froze and halted on my steps.
Sandalwood with grape notes. The smell of fresh earth and grass after it rains. And the sweet scent of cinnamon buns mixed with apple roasted duck wafted into my nose.
'Mate!'
'Mate is here!' Jenna sanged, awed at having a mate after all.
Then came the voices of the men who had wronged me in my past, the voices belonging to the men whom I vowed to have my revenge on.
My ex-husbands are my mates. I turned around and fled, not stopping even when I heard Beta Philip called me. I ran until I was far away from the pack house, far enough for them not to be able to tell it was me.
