The dark swamp was shrouded in mist, the stench of decay so overpowering that even wild beasts stayed away. Apart from rotting roots and leaves, there were the remains of many animals embedded in the black mud.
White skeletal remains ranged from half a meter to seven or eight meters in length, most were half-buried in the mud, emanating an especially heavy, eerie aura.
The towering trees were not particularly dense, yet their abundant canopies thoroughly covered the area, casting the swamp in a haunting gloom.
The swamp was eerily quiet. Other than the massive ancient trees, no live creatures lurked; not even a single bird could be seen.
With the arrival of nightfall, the swamp darkened further. The occasional splash from a nearby pond suggested some massive creature was lurking underwater, adding to the overall eeriness.
A dreadful pond, a silent swamp... shrouded in fog, like a land of the dead.
