Chapter 135 - Ruler's Agent

"I should go beat him up a bit. I wanted to see the London Bridge at least once," Judy complained as she flung herself onto the couch beside her.

Watching her whine, both Legia and Steve wondered whether she was an actual monarch or just the spoiled daughter of some rich man.

Seeing Legia look at him, Steve immediately turned away sheepishly. After all, he had raised the girl, and now that he thought about it, he had spoiled her a bit.

"Okay, enough of that. I want you both on the lookout for any—" Steve started, before suddenly trailing off.

Almost immediately, both Legia and Judy disappeared from the room with such speed that, if he were normal, Steve doubted he would have noticed they had simply run.

After ensuring that all was well, Steve sat back down on the armchair in the room, crossed his legs, and made himself quite comfortable as he waited.

"Kneel!" Legia's familiar voice was soon heard as a man was thrown to the floor before him.

As though by some invisible force, the man was immediately forced onto his knees, facing Steve.

"She really was right when she said, 'swallowed by light.' You work for the other party, right?" Steve asked.

"Who are you?" the man asked.

"Brother, you seem not to understand. You are only alive because you are human. So, when I ask a question, you answer. Who do you work for? How did you become such a broken mess of divine power?"

"I am already a dead man. Such threats don't work on me," the man said, as part of his face suddenly cracked open.

Looking at him, Steve could already tell. His body, though conditioned to hold the power of the Rulers, was breaking down.

The power of a celestial was too much for a human to carry. Thinking about it now, he might be the only exception to that, and even he didn't know why.

"That's good, then," Steve said, before a bright flash of light suddenly filled the room.

In the next second, Steve saw the man's head roll off his body. Blood filled the entire room, staining him even more, but he wasn't bothered at all.

Reaching out, a bright ball flew out of the man's body and appeared in his hand.

"Do they not realize that trying to hide the truth from someone who can manipulate souls is a waste of time?" Steve complained as he read the soul in his palm.

At the same time, he felt a huge amount of energy—greater than anything he had felt so far—enter his body.

Looking at the empty shell of a body before him, Steve was suddenly intrigued. The amount of power he gained from killing just this man was equal to what he had gained after killing two Monarchs.

The Rulers must have pumped a lot of power into his body. He wouldn't say he understood the main reason why they would do so, but he did know it was definitely to mess with the Monarchs' plans.

"Of course he's related to the boy," Steve said suddenly, rolling his eyes.

Reaching out again, both the body and every single drop of blood spilled began to float into the air.
