Chapter 2 - Classes

The entrance ceremony yesterday ended without a hitch. It's something I learned, but I can now relate to the students wo felt entrance ceremonies are tedious event. We had to sit still, stand up, give applause, listening to formal speeches and such.

My first experience in living in the dormitory has been smooth. There's no trouble that came up.

When I went down the elevator, I happened to notice a group of students. One of them noticed me coming out and gave me an energetic wave. The students around her looked at the direction she was waving and found me.

"Good morning Rei-kun! It's a great day for classes don't you think?"

"Good morning Honami-san." I greeted her.

"Just Honami is fine!"

"Then, Honami."

I realized that the people with her are fellow Class B students. Meaning they were my classmates. Ichinose invited me to go together with them, I accepted their invitation.

They were really getting along really well now. Despite just meeting each other yesterday, their chemistry with each other is high. The only reason I could think that would be possible is the girl before me, Ichinose Honami. She had good qualities of a leader, and it looks like she's doing good in getting the class to follow her.

...

The first period of classes for the day has been introducing the course objectives for the subject.

Everyone is behaving like a proper student. Though I could see some of them dozing off and chattering with their seatmates.

Despite that the morning classes has gone smoothly.

Lunch break came be the chime of the bell.

I have made myself a bento in times like this. I saved my energy from the cafeteria, the points that I could save, and it was nutritionally balanced too. It didn't take too much effort to make one, so it's a highly rational sustenance that maximizes merits and minimizes cost.

While eating lunch, the speakers sounds echoed through the classroom.

"At 5:00 pm today, we will be holding a student club fair in Gymnasium No. 1. Students interested in joining a club, please gather in Gymnasium No. 1. I repeat, at..."

The speaker is a girl with a sweet voice continued with the announcement.

Club activities, I've known about them. It's basically extra curricular activities that focuses on activaties other than academics. It consisted of various things like sports, cultural, or even a hobby.

In the short time I spent on middle school, I've seen several students from the baseball club getting an early morning practice and going late home. They're really passionate people with a huge goal of going to the national baseball tournament for middle school. In the end their efforts are rewarded and they actually were able to qualify for the national tournament. That day they became heroes of the school and celebrated their victory, they are the first sports club in the history of that school that managed to qualify for nationals. It's a good story with a happy ending.

"Do you have any plans on joining a club Rei? I played football in middle school so I'm thinking of joining one in this school too." A male student came to me with a sandwich on his hand.

If I remember from the class introductions, this student's name is Shibata Sou.

"I haven't made up my mind yet. I was thinking of taking a look at the fair later."

"Perfect! Then shall we go together?" Shibata said.

"Okay." I accepted Shibata's invitation.

...

5:00 pm

The gymnasium became full of people. I didn't expect the density of the crowd for this activity. I hadn't attended a club fair before.

Shibata and I looked at the various clubs. They're displaying their club activities for the first years to witness. If they're interested in joining, they would have to fill up the club application forms on the reception table.

One after another the clubs ended their presentations. The last person among the line of students came to the podium.

"I'm the student council president. My name is Horikita Manabu." He said.

"The student council is looking to recruit potential candidates among the first-year students to replace the graduating third years. Although no special qualifications are required for candidacy, we humbly ask that those considering applications not be involved in other club activities. We generally do not accept students involved elsewhere."

"Furthermore, we in the student council do not wish to appoint anyone who possesses a naive outlook. Not only would such a person not be elected, he or she would sully the sanctity of this school. It is the student council's right and duty to enforce and amend the rules, but the school expects more than that. We gladly welcome those of you who understand this."

"Thank you all for coming. The club fair has ended. We will now open the reception area to anyone interested in signing up. Also, registration will be open until the end of April, so if any student wishes to join at a later date, we ask that you please bring the application form directly to the club you wish to join."

The student council president ended his speech signalling the start of club applications.

"Phew, that was tense." Shibata said.

"The student council president must be a really excellent individual." I said.

"Well isn't it obvious? This school is completely different to a normal high school."

What Shibata said was right. Based on the information I gathered throughout the entire year of living here, this school is the only one that gives their students points for currency. The S System is still a huge mystery, and there's really limited information we could gather from the teachers and other sources.

"Well then, do you have any clubs you're interested? It's time to apply."

"Go ahead, I still have to think about it."
