The maid nodded, "Yes..."
Ming Mei glanced at her. She looked quite ordinary, with a slightly dark complexion, no different from those women who hustle in the streets for their livelihood, their faces weathered by hardship. Her features were common, barely noticeable in a crowd. She didn't talk much and even came off as a bit clumsy.
Ming Mei asked her, "Do you have kids at home?"
"I have a daughter who just started elementary school this year."
Ming Mei smiled, "That's nice...I bet she's doing well in her studies?"
The maid shook her head, "Well...not really. I'm often not home and don't have the time to supervise her studies, so she's not doing well academically."
Ming Mei chuckled, "That's okay. Kids her age love to play. She'll buckle down in a couple of years."
After chatting for a while, Ming Mei continued to ask, with the tone of someone discussing mundane family matters, "What order did you receive when you first came to the Kang family?"
