Huo Er promptly pushed the elevator close button. Negotiate? No way.
Fu Dongliu rushed to the elevator just as the doors closed.
He sighed and turned to take the stairs.
Fortunately, the staircase wasn't high, and with Fu Dongliu running quickly enough, he managed to intercept Huo Er as he emerged from the elevator.
Breathless, Fu Dongliu put out his hand to stop Huo Er. "We're comrades, once friends. You can't treat me like an enemy just because of what happened yesterday, can you?"

He manoeuvred around Fu Dongliu and kept going.
Fu Dongliu chased after him: "Can we stop squaring off every time we see each other?"
Huo Er continued walking: "That's not good. If you'd be more obedient and let me hit you once upon meeting, we wouldn't need to constantly feud."
Fu Dongliu shivered at the prospect, a punching bag? Is that what he was?
He refused adamantly. One beating had Mr. Chen looking down on him already. He wasn't about to go for a second round.
