The old man was startled, seeing that Ming Mei looked as though she would faint at any moment. His heart filled with alarm, he hurriedly asked, "What's happened? Are you okay? Please, sit down."
He urged Ming Mei into the house and personally poured her a cup of warm water.
The old man consoled Ming Mei, "Don't be scared. No matter what, as long as your dad is here, nothing is a problem."
Ming Mei's heart ached at his words. Since her rebirth, she had witnessed all of the old man's kindness towards her. He made her feel palpable paternal love, a sense of securıty and peace; reminding her of a time long past when her own father was by her side.
Ming Mei asked herself, was she really doubting this elderly man who had given her so much love and warmth, all because of a letter?
Seeing Ming Mei drift off into thought, the butler quickly butted in, "Old man, have a look at this."
The butler set down a sack, then opened it to reveal a dead body to the horrified old man.
