Xue Rong Zhen said she would learn how to cook with firewood, and Ye Que didn't stop her, as the days ahead would likely really depend on his mother to cook.
The house was some distance from the village, so there was no electricity, and all cooking in the future would have to be done over an open fire.
Ye Que had experience living in the mountains. When he was fifteen or sixteen years old, he and Tang Shichu would often head out on adventures with their backpacks, sometimes for several weeks or even months at a time.
So living here posed no difficulty for him, but he feared it might be hard on his mother and the little girl.
Chi Zaozao was also okay, being young and able to adapt to anything, but Xue Rong Zhen was different. As people age, everything they do is less than ideal.
