Li Biran was actually a smart and adaptable individual who did fairly well in middle school. Although he didn't put all of his efforts into his studies, he was still diligent. As a result, during the middle school finals, he outperformed himself and secured a place in a prestigious private high school, often referred to as an aristocratic school.
The tuition and living expenses were quite pricey. His parents, despite working out of town, gritted their teeth: it's worth it. Everything was for the sake of their child's future. Now that he had done them proud by making it into such a great high school, they wouldn't mind dipping into savings to afford his education.
However, only after a while of being at his new high school did Li Biran understand the saying "living beyond one's means."
Back in his original high school, he wasn't exactly a big shot, but he was still a figure. Here, he wasn't even a blip on the radar.
