Zhang Wei drew a deep breath and asked, "What are you up to?"
Xiaoyu answered in a delicate voice, "Playing with Yaya."
Zhang Wei, speaking through the speakerphone, exchanged surprised glances with Peng Ling; both then turned their gazes to the beggar not far away.
Peng Ling forced a smile and said, "Xiaoyu, Zhang and I have a dinner engagement tonight and will return late. Can I hear Yaya's voice?"
Xiaoyu straightforwardly replied, "Sure, wait a moment." She pulled another phone from her pocket, held it close to the first, and played an audio clip of a child crying. After a few seconds, Xiaoyu stopped the playback, saying, "Oh dear, Ling, Yaya is cranky now, I will have to end the call..."
The audience was in a state of uproar.
Peng Ling started, "Can we video call…" but before she could finish, Zhang Wei grabbed her arm and shook his head. Peng Ling closed her mouth, saying, "Okay, take good care of the baby." She hung up the phone.
