Chapter 2 - Leonor Navarro

Love is so short, forgetting is so long. – Pablo Neruda

Leonor Navarro, the first and only female descendant of the Navarro family. At the age of twenty two, her medical skills was already worth reckoning, her outstanding expertise in this field garnered her a lot of respect, envy and jealousy among her peers. One of the major reasons of their jealousy was her astonishing beauty, it was the kind that you wouldn't walk past without taking another glance, seemingly aware of the kind of lethal beauty she possessed, she was always seen carrying herself with grace and poise, it was probably the reason she was engaged to the grandson of the most influential family in the whole of the capital – The Villanueva's.

Walking steadily along the corridor, she paused when she saw the man standing beside her office door, didn't they just come to a conclusion at her father's office? What did he mean by standing there looking for her?

" Dr. Hugo." She greeted politely.

" Ah… little Leonor, I know you must be wondering why I'm here right?" Dr. Hugo said fawningly

" You might as well go ahead sir, there's no need to stand on ceremony with me." Leonor said coldly, she had always had a certain dislike for this particular man.

" Actually, the thing is, I was hoping you'd talk to your father about this matter, I know that Jefferson made a terrible mistake, but the Regional conference is around the corner, he could always pull a few strings and shut the victim's family up." Dr. Hugo said, taking a step closer which prompted Leonor to take one backwards.

" This matter has already been settled, if you have any issue with it, you should have said so a long time ago, besides, what strings are there to be pulled, trying to cover up this issue will only make it worse and I'd really appreciate it if you don't bring this issue up in front of my father, he already has a lot on him." Leonor said menacingly.

" Let's not beat around the bush any longer, you know that something can be done don't you? There is always someone who can settle this without a ruckus." Dr. Hugo insisted.

" If there is such a person then please forgive my manners and enlighten me." Leonor said, placing her hands into the pockets of her white coat.

" The Villanueva family, one word from them and all these can be swept under the carpet, aren't you engaged to their grandson, besides, your family and theirs have known each other since you were a child, you could always put in some words." Dr. Hugo continued.

Leonor's face darkened the moment she heard his suggestion.

" If it was so easy, why don't you go banging on their door, seeking an audience with the Elder. Is this the string you want to pull? What makes you think the Villanueva family would want to get themselves involved in this mess, besides, why are you so insistent on sending Jefferson to the Regional conference?" Leonor roared angrily, attracting the attention of the people in the corridor.

she quickly got into her office and slammed the door, nobody probably knew but what she hated the most was when she was reminded of her engagement to the Villanueva's grandson.

Standing in front of the door, Dr. Hugo was utterly dumbfounded, he had watched this girl grow, she had always been docile and gentle, this was the first time he had seen her react so….. fiercely. Whipping out his phone, he placed a call and brought the phone to his left ear.

"Boy, I've tried, there's nothing more that I can do." Dr. Hugo said, rubbing the space between his brows.

"Sir, you can't let this happen to me, what about that thing from the Regional conference? You promised me sir." a shaky voice came from over the phone.

" Since you know what is at stake here why did you go ahead and act recklessly? You've only been here for nine months and you already have an ex-girlfriend? You heard for yourself what the CEO said, it can't be helped, but I'd see what can be done." Dr. Hugo said angrily and with that, he hung up.
