Chereads / The Witch Awakens on Werewolf Night / Chapter 78 - The Curse of the Werewolf

Chapter 78 - The Curse of the Werewolf

The golden sunlight leapt over her eyelids, as if she were deep in the clouds above the morning break. Dill blinked and watched as the green curtains lifted up to reveal the greenish color of the lake, and the great white goose was grooming its feathers in the shallow dew of the basin, each feather brushed with a hazy iridescence. Oslo, the parrot, doesn't dare to go near the goose at all, and he's already had a taste of it.

Dill could hear Turnip humming a victory song, and turning her head, Kristina was asleep across from her.

Ah yes, last night they had basked in the moonlight, counted the stars, and toasted wildly with great bravado, as if they were back at the Crescent Moon Gala in Miller's Hollow. They'd both ended up drunk, and had simply slept on the woolen blankets, which were thick enough to keep them warm and cozy.

Dill couldn't help staring at Cristina, her face serene, her dark lashes curling gracefully, her lips beading as if she were holding a rose, as beautiful as a court painting.

She thought of Ms. Fran, the serious blue-robed witch who had been so hard on Kristina, who had driven the young girl into such misery, that more than once Kristina had snuck out to play with them. The young girl didn't understand why other girls didn't need to learn etiquette, history, geography, and even local dialects and other things besides witchcraft. Oslo was like another mouth for her, freeing her nature for her and singing freely.

At the time, Amber had only said that Ms. Flanders herself had served as a court teacher in many countries, and Dill had thought that she was really a learned and serious lady, but that it was just bitter for Kristina.

But in retrospect, perhaps Ms. Fran knew everything, and she was preparing for Kristina's future early on.

Dill's intuition told herself that it was not something she could interfere with.

"Go for it, Kristina." She whispered her blessing. Kristina rubbed her eyes and rose from the blanket with a sleepy look on her face, her soft brown hair curled around her silky white robe, so cute as a bear awakening from hibernation that Dill couldn't resist rushing over to give her a bear hug.

"Wow, it's so late? How long have I been asleep?" True to her name, Kristina was the longest in the line of little witches, and she quickly adjusted and quickly cleaned up a mess.

Dill watched as she quickly changed her clothes and wrapped her beautiful long hair in a cloth scarf, the fellow witch who was chatting with her about the land yesterday, in the blink of an eye became an inconspicuous maid in Green Fei City again.

That's what [Stalker] and [Disguise] are all about, isn't it? Dill thought that even if she couldn't become a princess, she could still become an assassin. An assassin who was proficient in magic could not be defended against even the Silver Wolf King who was pretending to be a human noble.

Cristina brought a basin of water to freshen up for Dill, but was pushed back by Dill, who didn't really think of herself as a lady.

Dill ended up changing back into her silver robe, a treasure that had been with her since she left the valley, and which had been tanned to a new shine by last night's moonlight. The robe changed with its owner's whims, and as soon as it was attached to her skin, the sterling silver material was like green leaves shaking off frost and snow, the lines crumbling and rejoining in different cuts and patterns, and finally transforming into a dark green girdle-waisted light dress for a noblewoman, with the hemline of the skirt falling impartially, just right, at the young girl's toes.

"Not bad!" Kristina's comment gave Dill instant confidence, after all, this was the true master of disguise.

Kristina went to get breakfast. As soon as Dill picks up the big white goose, Oslo can't wait to land in the water bowl.

He fluttered his wings exaggeratedly, as if he wanted to wash the Turnip, and the shallow pool of water was shaken and splashed, and Dill saw from afar that it was a rather appalling sight, as if the bird was boiling in boiling water, and you could have added an egg to it.

Witches say that the more clever and cunning an animal is, the cleaner it is. Just like a certain wolf, obviously a wolf, every time I see him, he is clean, his silver armor is snow-white and shiny, and his blonde hair is as radiant as sunlight. Even when he was transformed, he had voluminous curly coquette colored curls, and his eyes were sweet as flowing honey, more so than any human teenager his age ...

Dill quickly tore back into her thoughts. Kristina was now filled with thoughts of finding the werewolf, she herself was now in a dilemma, and was about to implement the Moon Witch's traitor if she wasn't careful.

She brushed the feathers of the great white goose as she organized her thoughts ...

"Buzzing ...."

Dill frowned and actually pinched out a large fly from the clean feathers of the great white goose. Before she could be too disgusted, Turnip had no problem swallowing the little morsel that was brought to her door in one gulp.

The oak door to the room was awakened by a knock on the door, it was the voice of Kristina, "Dill, the kitchen is busy, this is all I got."

Kristina brought up the tray, a small bowl of fruit accompanied by honey and two pieces of white cheese toast that had dried out not fresh. Compared to last night's feast, this was downright simple. But neither of the two moon witches cared, and Dill was even glad to finally not have to ingest any alcohol. "I'll call in a few sparrows later and search the most suspicious places first. Dill you're in just the right position to be a shield from those pesky guards ..."

Splat! Dill slapped the bread off of Kristina's hand.

Kristina looked horrified: "It's not like I'm saying a shield is real ..."

"Kristina, look closely!"

The bread fell on the plate, shaking off countless white cheese crumbs, Kristina watched as the cheese crumbs began to wriggle and struggle to climb back onto the bread ...

It was no cheese crumbs! A single white, thick maggot crawled over the cracks where the dough had baked, and the plate was covered with the crushed shells the maggots had molted off.

Kristina pushed back her nausea as she and Dill exchanged glances, Kristina calmed down as she picked up the fruit bowl and examined it, inside were two apples and a large water pear.

"That looks fine." Dill tried to struggle a little more.

Kristina picked up the table knife and gave it a gentle slice, blackened, foul-smelling juice immediately oozed from the cut surface, and when she forcefully cut open the flesh on both sides, several more writhing, coarse whites fell out, long since rotted and maggot-ridden on the inside.

"Something's wrong." Kristina muttered, "The food I got earlier was normal."

Dill thought of the inexplicable fly that appeared earlier and instantly understood what Kristina meant.

The two Moon Witches looked at each other in disbelief, Kristina reacted quickly, she drew out her silver flute and held it against her lips, and in no time at all, she called for three small sparrows, which were her ears and eyes that she had extended out.

Soon after, Kristina huffed, "It's not just us, last night's leftovers, all the food immediately rotted with maggots as soon as it passed through the hands of the hands, there are flies everywhere, no wonder the kitchen was in such a mess just now."

Dill felt a chill run down her back, but still said the answer she was guessing in her mind, "A werewolf plague?"

Werewolves possess the power to curse everything, enough to bring about a plague-like disaster, wherever they pass through, domestic animals die horribly, flowers and plants wither, and food rots.

Kristina nodded with a grave expression on her face, "The wolves are starting to move, if that's the case..."

The pair were interrupted by another knock on the oak door, it was Nanny Mag, her voice urgent and full of pleading:

"Tina, is Miss Dill awake?"

Kristina immediately went to open the door, and Dill quickly righted herself behind it.

"What's wrong?"

Behind the door, Nanny Dill was pale and devoid of her previous haughty demeanor.

As soon as she saw the young girl in formal dress Suli, she was like finding a savior, and immediately panicked and said, "This morning the kitchen there unexpectedly delivered rotten food, and the young lady seemed to be frightened, and the whole person was a bit crazy! But now that the castle is in chaos, I can not find the lady."

Dill immediately took Kristina and followed Nanny Mag upstairs to Rosalie's boudoir.

As soon as she stepped into the room, an even stronger odor of decay caused Dill to cover her nose subconsciously.

Disgusting food was spilled all over the place, and the room was even more of a mess, with tables, chairs, and furniture falling over, as if it had been through a fierce fight.

Dill drew a breath, only to see Miss Rosalie being pressed on the bed by three burly servants, her robe torn to pieces, her whole body grimacing and disheveled, unable to see her former pretty and meek face.

Nanny Mag was heartbroken: "Okay, okay, let go of Miss, you'll hurt her!"

The three showed a look of difficulty: "We are now combining our efforts to hold down the young lady if we let go of it ...."

"I have tranquilizing incense here." Dill drew the curtains and picked up a candlestick on the side.

Probably because Mrs. Lester had told Nanny Mag that Dill Lau had a background as an East Coast medicine man, the other party trusted Dill Lau quite a bit and let her move. As the warm and inviting incense began to fill the room, Miss Rosalie, who was still struggling, slowly slowed down her movements, and then, like a doll with its clockwork removed, her head tilted, and she fell asleep.

Dill immediately harvested the servants' and maidservants' trust and admiration She did not hurry and said, "Miss is probably in shock, I will first massage and relax for Miss. Let her have a good rest. You go and wait for the lady to come first."

After successfully dismissing all the servants, including the most stubborn Nanny Mag, Dill asked Cristina to close all the doors and windows, not a single crack that could be used for prying eyes, before the two of them approached the edge of the bed to check on Miss Rosalie's condition.

Without waiting for Kristina to ask, Dill immediately tossed the unconscious Rosalie up and down, not forgetting to ask her partner for help:

"Quick, help me look!"

"Find what?"

"The bite marks."

Kristina couldn't believe it, "You mean Ms. Rosalie ..."

A man-wolf?
