It was late evening of June 20. Twelve-year-old Natsu and eleven-year-old Yuna were hanging out in the guild hall together with their winged cats that were born earlier that day. All of the sudden, memories of home filled Yuna's mind and tears started to prick at her eyes. She left the guild hall for some alone time because she didn't want anyone to see her in tears. Lisanna sensed something was wrong and told Natsu to go after her. He knew just where to find her: Southgate Park. He saw her sitting at the base of the big tree at the center of the park. He approached her and asked if she was okay. She immediately wiped away her tears and told Natsu how much she missed her parents and best friend back at home. While it pained Natsu to know she would be leaving him when she went back home, he understood why. He'd want to go back home too if he were in her shoes. He sat down in front of her and reached out his hand and placed it lovingly on her cheek.
"It's okay Yuna. You'll get to see them again. Your magic's nearly strong enough to go back home. It'll only be a little longer. So cheer up, okay?" Natsu said soothingly with a gentle smile. Yuna leaned into his warm hand and smiled.
"Thank you Natsu." Yuna said as Natsu slowly pulled his hand away and offered to help her up. Then they went back to the guild together.
~Time Skip (1 Month)~
It was July 20 now and it had been a little over seven years since Yuna arrived in Earth-land. She was eleven years old and Natsu was thirteen. They had been part of Fairy Tail for more than two years now. Yuna and Natsu and their cats Zoey and Happy were hanging out in the guild hall as they usually did when they weren't out on a job together. She was having a friendly conversation with Natsu, Gray, and Erza about the most recent jobs they had been on. Surprisingly for once, Natsu and Gray weren't fighting.
"So Yuna, Natsu, how did your job from the other day go? " Erza asked the pair of dragon slayers.
"Oh it was easy! I set the bandits on fire and they ran around like a bunch of idiots and fell right into Yuna's Dimensional Dragon's Void. Then we took a shortcut to the authorities using Yuna's Dimensional Dragon's Gateway to turn them in." Natsu said proudly.
"Natsu and I did have a little trouble with a couple of them. But it wasn't too difficult." Yuna added, being honest.
"We did not! We're a perfect team! We kicked their butts!" Natsu said, punching his fist out and accidentally hitting Gray in the shoulder.
"Oww! Watch it Flame Brain!" Gray said angrily at Natsu.
"What did you just call me?!" Natsu raised his voice at the ice mage, pushing his forehead against Gray's.
"I called you Flame Brain because that's what you are!" Gray snapped back. And with that, they started fighting again as usual. Yuna laughed at the amusing scene. She loved Natsu and his reckless and carefree personality and how loyal and protective he was of his friends. He reminded her a little bit of Izuku, but much less shy and timid. When she remembered Izuku, she became a little sad. She missed home but she also considered this place home as well. She stopped laughing and sighed. Erza seemed to notice her shift in mood. She had a feeling she knew why. Erza knew about Yuna's past and where she was from. The whole guild knew in fact. They were aware that the day was approaching when she would be leaving them to go home once her magic was strong enough to travel back to her universe.
"Are you okay?" Erza asked Yuna who nodded her head, wiping a tear away from her eye.
"I'm okay. It's just... I miss home, I miss my parents, and I miss Izuku. I'm almost strong enough to go back home, but... then I'll miss the guild and you guys, especially Natsu. I'm a bit conflicted on what I should do." Yuna admitted to Erza who put her hand on her shoulder.
"Yes, we'll miss you and you'll miss us, but your family and best friend are probably missing you more now. You should return to them." Erza said in a comforting manner. Yuna managed a small smile.
"Thank you Erza. I'm gonna go practice my magic now." Yuna said as she got up from the table and left the guild hall to go to Southgate Park. Natsu and Gray were so focused on fighting each other they didn't notice Yuna leave. Erza just went back to eating her strawberry cake. All was well for a while, even with the two boys fighting, until Natsu knocked Gray into the table Erza was at and caused her cake to fall off onto the floor. She was furious and ended their fight by grabbing them by the hair and knocking their heads into each other. Natsu and Gray were a little dazed for a short moment. When he came back to his senses, Natsu looked around the guild hall looking for Yuna.
"Hey where's Yuna?" Natsu asked Erza who crossed her arms and sighed.
"She went to Southgate Park to practice her magic." Erza said as Natsu left immediately to go see Yuna. When he got there, she was practicing the spell that would get her back home: Dimensional Dragon's Wormhole.
"Dimensional Dragon's Wormhole!" Yuna said as she thrust her hands out in front of her. The entrance of a portal began to materialize in front of her. It was different from her normal spells Dimensional Dragon's Portal and Dimensional Dragon's Gateway. Dimensional Dragon's Portal was a short distance teleportation spell and Dimensional Dragon's Gateway was a long distance spell. But this spell would allow her to travel to a different universe. A translucent tunnel started to form on the other side of the portal.
"Practicing your magic again?" Natsu said, which startled Yuna. She jumped, letting out a yelp as her spell dissipated.
"Geez, you scared me Natsu! I almost had it too." Yuna said, turning to Natsu.
"Sorry, sorry." Natsu apologized with a sheepish grin as he scratched the back of his head. Yuna just sighed and tried to cast the spell again, concentrating hard.
"Dimensional Dragon's Wormhole!" Yuna said loudly as the portal formed again and this time the translucent tunnel completely formed, fading until it disappeared into reality itself.
"I did it... I finally did it Natsu! I can finally go home!" Yuna said excitedly as Natsu smiled at her with a hint of sadness in his eyes. He was genuinely happy for her, but he was also sad knowing that she would be leaving him behind.
"We should let the guild know." Natsu said as he held out his hand to Yuna. She nodded and took his hand and walked with him back to the guild hall. As they held hands, Yuna blushed. Just something about holding hands with him made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When they got back to the guild hall, she announced to everyone that she finally perfected the spell that would allow her to go back home.
~Short Time Skip~
The entire guild gathered at Southgate Park to see Yuna off before she went home. She said her goodbyes and gave everyone a hug before she cast Dimensional Dragon's Wormhole. Right as she was about to walk through the wormhole entrance, she felt a hand grab hers. She turned to see who it was. It was Natsu. His head was down as he looked at the ground.
"Natsu?" Yuna said his name in a curious tone.
"Yuna... will you return to Earthland someday?" Natsu asked, lifting his head to meet her teal eyes with his onyx ones. He looked like he was about to cry. Yuna hugged him tightly.
"Of course Natsu. I'll come back to see you again. That's a promise. I'm really gonna miss you. Take good care of Zoey for me." Yuna said as tears rolled down her cheeks. She pulled away and wiped the tears off her face. As she started to walk into the entrance of the wormhole, she paused and turned to face Natsu and everyone else in Fairy Tail.
"Thanks for everything. I'll miss you guys." Yuna said as she waved goodbye to everybody, turned around and continued to walk through the wormhole. When she got to the other side of the wormhole, she appeared to be in the countryside. There was a small church nearby and in the distance there was a giant skull with fangs and three eye sockets and two horns, one of them broken. Suddenly, Yuna heard a loud voice nearby. Yuna went over to go check it out.
"Please marry me Sister Lily! Marry me! Marry me!" A young boy with spiky gray hair and lime green eyes said loudly to a pretty nun with black hair and blue eyes carrying a full laundry basket. He offered her a flower as he proposed. He looked to be close to Yuna's age. There was another boy with messy black hair and gold eyes trying to explain to the gray-haired boy that nuns can't marry. He also appeared to be the same age as the gray-haired boy, but he was a little taller than him. There was also another boy there shorter than the other two with a bored uninterested look on his face. He had very short brown hair and purple eyes who seemed to be about five years old. The last child at the scene was a girl a bit taller than the brown-haired boy but shorter than the gray-haired boy. She had shaggy magenta colored hair and emerald green eyes. She appeared to be around eight years of age. As Yuna approached the group, the gray-haired boy noticed her first. He stared at her as she walked up to them.
"Umm hi. Could you guys tell me where I am?" Yuna asked the group.
"Why of course. You're in Hage Village of the Clover Kingdom." The nun answered Yuna whose heart sank. She was hoping she landed somewhere in the countryside of Japan and that giant three-eyed skull was just a huge sculpture she didn't know about. She could sense magic here too, but she was hoping that was just a new ability she picked up in Earth-land and brought back home with her. But it seems she had appeared in another universe other than her own again.
"Hey are you okay? You look sad." The gray-haired boy said, seeming concerned for Yuna. She shook her head.
"I was supposed to go home, but I ended up here instead. I haven't seen my family and best friend in seven years." Yuna said as she sniffed, starting to tear up. The gray-haired boy walked up to her and began rubbing her back in a comforting manner.
"It's okay. You'll be able to go home. You can just use your magic to go home like you did to get here. Give it a try!" He said with a reassuring smile as Yuna wiped her tears away and nodded. She held out her hands in front of her and tried to cast the spell that brought her here.
"Dimensional Dragon's Wormhole." Yuna said as the group gave her peculiar looks. Unfortunately, nothing happened.
"That's weird. I can sense Ethernano in the atmosphere. Why can't I cast this spell?" Yuna thought out loud. Everyone looked at her oddly.
"Ethernano?" The nun said in a curious tone.
"Oh yeah, I didn't tell you guys. I traveled from another universe using the spell I just tried to cast. Over there, magical energy is called Ethernano. I was trying to get back home using that spell since I'm originally from a different universe than the one I just came from. But I ended up here instead. Oh, my name's Yuna Sakai by the way." Yuna explained and introduced herself.
"I see. Here, we call magical energy mana." The nun informed Yuna.
"You're from a different universe?! That's so cool! Oh, and my name is Asta." The gray-haired boy introduced himself, holding out his hand to Yuna.
"Nice to meet you Asta." Yuna said, grabbing Asta's hand and shaking it.
"I am Sister Lily. And this is Yuno, Rekka, and Nash. It's a pleasure to meet you Yuna." The nun said, gesturing to each of the other kids as she introduced the rest of the group.
"It's great to meet all of you too." Yuna said as she gave them a friendly smile. But her smile soon faded because she remembered she failed to get home.
"You okay?" Asta asked Yuna.
"Not really. Since my dimensional dragon slayer magic doesn't work in this universe, I don't know how to get home. I really miss my family and best friend. I haven't seen them in seven years." Yuna said with a sullen tone.
"Well until you figure out how to get back home, you can stay with us! Is that okay Sister Lily?" Asta suggested, asking Sister Lily for permission for Yuna to stay with them. Before she could answer, a middle aged man with short gray hair and a goatee wearing a priest robe came out of the church and approached everyone.
"Sister, have you finished the laundry yet?" The man asked Sister Lily. Then he noticed Yuna.
"Oh hello. I haven't seen you around here before. What's your name?" He asked Yuna. Asta answered for her before she even had a chance to.
"This is Yuna Sakai. She's from a different universe and can't figure out how to get home. So I suggested that she stay with us until she finds a way to go back home. Is it okay if she joins our family?" Asta said to the priest.
"Of course she can! The more the merrier right? Oh, I'm Orsi Orfai, but you can just call me Father." The priest approved of Asta's idea and introduced himself to Yuna.
"Thank you. I appreciate your kindness." Yuna said as she bowed politely.
"No problem! Now what did I come out here for? Oh yeah! The laundry." Father said as Sister Lily approached him with the basket of clean laundry.
"Yes, it's done. Come with me everyone. I could use some help folding all this laundry." Sister Lily said as she continued to walk towards the church entrance with Father, Yuno, Rekka, and Nash following behind her. Asta stayed behind with Yuna.
"Aren't you going to go help Sister Lily fold the laundry?" Yuna asked Asta.
"Nah, she's got Yuno and the others to help her." Asta said as an awkward silence followed.
"So... how old are you?" Asta asked Yuna, breaking the silence.
"I'm eleven years old. My birthday is May 4." Yuna answered.
"I'm ten years old. I'll be eleven on October 4. Yuno is the same exact age as me. We were both found at the church that day as newborns." Asta said.
"So are all the other kids orphans too?" Yuna asked Asta who nodded his head.
"Yeah. But we're like a real family. And now you're part of this family." Asta said, flashing Yuna a bright smile which made her blush.
"So you mentioned dimensional dragon slayer magic. What kind of magic is that exactly?" Asta asked Yuna, curious about her magic. Yuna explained it as best she could, telling him about her background in Earthland. Then she told him about her past before Earthland where she was originally from and how she got to Earthland to begin with. Asta listened to her with fascination sparkling in his lime green eyes. Soon it was dinner time. Sister Lily and Father fetched Asta and Yuna so that they could eat. They had a pot potato feast to celebrate Yuna joining the foster family. When it was time for bed, Yuna shared a room with all the kids. Her futon was on the end next to Asta's. While all the rest of the kids fell asleep, Yuna and Asta stayed up chatting quietly with each other. Yuna found out that in this magical world, Asta was born without magic and that he wouldn't let that stop him from becoming the Wizard King someday. He explained to Yuna the Wizard King's role in the Clover Kingdom and why he wanted to be one someday. Yuna was moved by Asta's sheer determination to accomplish his goal despite his lack of magic. Eventually, they grew tired and fell asleep. They both slept soundly until morning.
