Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Pictures

Dark room, warm humid temperature , and an ambience to unsettle the most level headed individual. The Red Room was the place I spent the majority of my time when not preoccupied by the work brought to me. I can't exactly understand how I ended up in this scenario of disproportion. Lacy Geralds, a name I have a weird recognition too. Was it from a coffee shop? No no. Possibly from a colleague? Possible, but I can't quite seem to place my thumb on it. Unfortunate really, but I don't really have time to dawdle on it. The longer I wait, the more time the killer has too execute another heinous act. They have been evading authorities for quite a few months now, and the public is starting to grow very weary of the local Sheriff's department. Questions are arising about the severity of the circumstance being shown by the department. Questions pop up about the action being taken, what can the citizens do to be more proactive in said situation, and most important, who's next?

People like Lacy were loved by the public, had no enemies, a family that loved them, a reputation that made the most law abiding citizen look like a criminal, and a heart only an angel can have. Who would have such a devious MO to target such an upstanding citizen such herself and the five others? Such a gruesome and macabre scene left behind. Detectives report that she had been sexually assaulted, gutted, and fed her own innards while she was still alive. The five others, while almost similar, all had a unique twist to them as well. Autopsies report that blunt force trauma had not been a factor, but are not ruling out the possibility of sedation. Rope marks around the wrist indicate a restraint of the victims, and a potential struggle that ensued after awakening. Media has named the killer, Chef Gutter. Poor taste of a name on behalf of the media, but what can you expect? Whatever captivates the reader I guess, but why does it almost seem comedic? But alas, I am getting off track. Where was I? Oh. Here. Looking back down at the photograph brought in by Detective Nikels, I began analyzing for anything that the department may have missed. Taking a sip of my coffee, I began surveying through the photos of the crime scenes from each individual crime. Unsettling sights to say the least, may even go vegetarian after this. I'm only kidding, but to say I wasn't a little bit appalled would be an understatement. Lacy, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, was found supine with a look of utter horror plastered on her face. Reading through the file that came attached to the photograph, it stated that no evidence was found at the scene of the crime almost as if a ghost had committed the act itself. I flip through more pages of the file which in turn wafted a very distinct smell of printer ink. Typical, I think to myself, only items found at the scene of the crime where the belonging of the victim herself. Items included: a purse with a thousand dollars cash, her pearl necklace (totaling out another grand), her ID, and car keys (car found, stripped and burned ten miles away, possible transport vehicle). Reading over this portion of the file, leads me to the same conclusion as the department. This wasn't just an unintentional robbery, this had to be premeditated and very thoroughly planned. These people, this young lady, we're not just accidents, they were very intentionally murdered. Before becoming a private investigator, I had to take a criminal justice course. During one of the lectures, I remember the professor explaining how, nine out of ten murders are committed by someone the victims knew, not a stranger. Guess going off that knowledge, it's time to get to work.
