"Why should I trust you?" the Eagle Tribe chief asked, using the last bit of his reason to voice the question.

John responded as if he had just heard a particularly amusing joke.

"Because your entire life and the lives of your people are in my hands. You have no room to refuse, and you certainly have no leverage to negotiate with me."

John's lips curled into a slight smile, but the Eagle Tribe chief ground his teeth so hard he nearly broke them.

He couldn't deny that John was right, and it was a truth they were powerless to resist.
