Chereads / Mr White is a Cat / Chapter 3 - I Am Puzzled

Chapter 3 - I Am Puzzled

Mrs Matilda.

Mother...she says?

When I think about it, maybe the old woman's wishes were granted and now I am here because of her.

Usually, people who are in my position would take this opportunity to splurge on all the success this woman has achieved, but I don't want all this.

There is no meaning to it.

Nothing.

I was drowning in my thoughts and began to lose concentration while looking at the face of the maid who was still talking.

"...and today was December 17, 1xxx. The day Mrs... " she paused and slowly looked at me.

Is it December 17? I see. It's been a year since her funeral. That said, I may die because of hunger while lying on her bed.

...

...

Or maybe this is merely a dream.

...

...

Maybe I will wake up soon.

...

...

...

...

The curtains fluttered slowly with the flow of the wind blowing in and out through the large window that led to a mini balcony that joined the room.

I woke up with my hair in a mess and then got off the king-size bed.

Looking down on the floor of the room

Two legs. I thought.

Unhurriedly turned my gaze out the open window. The moon is packed, and it shines through the window's mirror.

I guess I am stuck in this body.

But I reflect on it again.

This house belongs to that old woman. Wait a minute, she is my mother, which means...

I quickly left the room. As I stood in the middle of the corridor in front of the door, I began to realize that my room had never existed before.

I then made my way to the guest lounge.

In the middle of the room, there is a large portrait. Back then It was a picture of the old woman but it was covered with a red cloth because her fiancé had broken off the engagement in her 30s, that's why she removed all her portraits except for this one.

And now, it is covered with a white cloth.

I yanked the cloth and saw.

A young man with milk tea grey brown-haired smiling while standing next to a woman wearing a grey scarf stitched with a golden trend at the end of the scarf, sitting on a chair.

"Her lucky charm," I said.

I remembered.

There was a moment when I saw her falling asleep while sitting on a chair outside the yard. She seemed to be holding a pile of newspapers and portraits of children between the ages of two and twelve.

However, at that time, I could only speculate that she longed for a family. Although not of her flesh and blood, as long as she has someone she can call family, it might be enough for her.

Yet, instead of having a child, she adopted me.

"Mr White?" Suddenly, someone approached me from behind, making me off guard, which caused me to jump toward the couch not too far from where I stood.

It seems that my behaviour as a cat still occurs even in a human body. But, to jump that high was not a normal height for humans.

"Ha ha ha ha, pardon me Mr White for making you feel surprised," she added while laughing hysterically

Gladly, she is not too surprised by the jump.

I halted and slowly shifted my gaze upwards after only seeing the body figure.

I thought she was a maid, but it turned out she was the head chef.

Judging by her appearance, I am pretty sure she lifts a lot every day because it is very noticeable. After all, her muscles are so big for a woman. She is also taller than a human man. Me.

"By the way, Mr White, what are you doing at this hour? Dinner already passed, oh! My goodness, How can I forget? You must be hungry because I don't think you have eaten since this morning."

She is also chatty. I thought.

"Oh! I made a new recipe just now. Do you want to try it?" offered her while smiling dazzlingly.

She talks so quickly.

"I-I..." I feel hesitant.

"It's tuna," she says loudly.

My favourite fish.

"Your favourite ingredient!" shouted her while looking at me confidently.

"Well..." I hung back then. I retreated one step after her face was facing too close to me.

"I kinda made a new soup recipe too using some fresh herbs from your garden. Your secret ingredients." her voice suddenly became soft like she was whispering.

"What? My secret ingredient?"

Did this human man, me? Likes to gardening?

"Sushh... Let's just go to the kitchen and try it right now. Mr White." while dragging me into her kitchen.

While on our way to the kitchen, I noticed my table, which was placed beside the old lady's chair at the dining table, had gone.

It made me think again.

Is the time repeated, or am I in a different dimension?

Reincarnation?

...

...

"How was it, Mr White?" she asks. Her hand is on the table with her legs wide open like a man.

I can't imagine her wearing a long dress like a proper-looking lady. Well, it's not that there are important issues.

"It is a finely cooked meal," I said while sitting in the dining area for the staffers in the kitchen.

Surprisingly, I indeed know how to eat just like a human being, but maybe it's because of the maid this morning, even tho the utensil looks different right now. Hopefully, these eating manners are correct.

"Finely? It should be an amazing meal," she says, unsatisfied with my answer.

"You should cook a better meal next time."

"Hrm... At least you can empty one big container that fits ten people to eat," she said sarcastically.

"That's because I was hungry." I glare at her a few times, hoping she will slide off my word just like the maid this morning.

Speaking of her, this morning. I remember I was a little too disrespectful towards her after she explained my schedule.

...

"Mr White, today you have an arrangement meeting with the royal family in the afternoon, after that you have a meeting with a young lady of the duchess and in the evening you have a sword practice," the maid said diligently.

I kept silent for a few minutes before I could answer her while looking in the mirror.

"...can I cancel everything? I need some sleep today."

I lay on the bed while she was still talking.

"But, Mr White. At least attend the meeting with the royal family..."

Before she could explain anything, I had already fallen asleep.

She has no option but to leave the room.

Perhaps she worries that if she tries to wake me up again, I might feel distressed, so she assumes I am feeling unwell because of the old lady. I mean, mother.

I felt truly guilty, but it was just not the right moment to attend anything without knowing what this human, man's responsibility was.

Even tho I thought it that way, but at first, I assumed this would never exist.

Still, what to do now?
