"Goodness?" Malron grumbled. "You're wasting my time!"
Malron bent to pick up his phone and turned to return to the car, but once again Seraphine brandished her spear to block the demon's path. Their eyes met, Seraphine's still full of question marks.
"I have to get Kieran out of here. He's in danger," Malron said, putting the phone back to his ear. It was completely absurd, but what could he do?
"So you have no idea who the perpetrators are?"
Sometimes Malron got tired of angels. Weren't they supposed to be beings of honesty and trust? Then why doubt someone's word? Was it because the Angels had been deceived too many times and believed too much?
"I don't know," Malron shook his head. "You better explain about the High Priests and what their role really is."
Seraphine shook her head. "I can't, Malron."
Casually, Malron raised his middle finger in front of Seraphine's face. "Yes, you're a coward," the demon hissed.
"That's an order I can't refuse," Seraphine defended herself.
Malron was too lazy to argue and waste time looking for information from Seraphine. They would never be in alignment, not even until the earth crumbled and returned to eternity.
"Don't take the road you're about to take, turn slightly northeast, Malron," Seraphine said. "They are waiting for you if you insist on leaving this path." The angel pointed to the road in front of them.
"Okay," Malron replied easily.
Seraphine's figure disappeared in an instant as Malron opened the car door. The demon was stunned for a moment, then hurried back into the car.
"Who are you calling, Lord?" Kieran asked curiously.
"One of my colleagues, but she can't help us. I think we're on our own, Kieran."
Kieran's face looked slightly worried, but the young man just nodded quickly. "We still have the Maker, Lord. I have doubted His existence before, when I lost my family and Mrs. Guasch."
Malron grumbled inwardly, not again.
"But I'm still alive where I should have suffered the same fate as Mrs. Guasch. Though my heart hurts, God provided this path for a reason," Kieran continued.
Malron wanted to shove the phone into Kieran's mouth. It was pointless for Malron to fight the demons while Kieran didn't even know how to be grateful.
"He didn't help you, I did!" Malron grumbled irritably.
The demon started the car again with the power in his hands.
"But..."
"Can your God drive you to Pennsylvania without even using a car key?" Malron glared at Kieran, annoyed. "No! He never appears just to answer your prayers, Kieran. So shut up and don't mention Him again! I'm tired of hearing about it!"
Kieran fell silent and said nothing.
The car drove off, leaving behind a cloud of dust from the squealing tires.
Reluctantly, Malron took the detour, following Seraphine's suggestion. The angel would not lead them astray. Because in truth, it is the job of demons to lead the way.
Kieran really did keep his mouth shut so that Malron could think harder. Until that moment, Malron was still curious what had happened to Kieran so that the young man could use the demon's trident.
If Kieran possessed the powers of a demon, Malron's trident shouldn't have emitted a different aura, nor should its color have changed to black and gold. This was truly a strange phenomenon.
Suddenly, Malron's gut feeling became uncomfortable, he could sense that many were waiting for his presence a few hundred meters in front of him. Of course, it was the aura of the demons.
"Damn it!" Malron cursed.
"What is it, Lord?" Kieran asked, looking carefully at Malron with a worried expression on his face.
"That old hag obviously tricked me!" Malron slammed the wheel.
Kieran tilted his head in confusion. "Old hag?"
There was no way Malron could get back on the road to leave Albuquerque. All exits seemed to be surrounded. Whether he liked it or not, Malron had to break through the barricade of cars ahead.
Unfortunately, the demons were disguised as police officers, and police cars were waiting at the city limits.
A pair of wings appeared from the left and right window sides, making Malron jump in surprise. Seraphine was back, standing on the roof of the car.
"Is it me you're talking about, Malron?" asked Seraphine.
Malron didn't answer; he just swallowed hard and stepped on the accelerator.
"Lord Malron! Why is the car speeding up?" Kieran panicked.
"Shut up!!" Malron replied sharply. His hand hit the roof of the car. "Are you going to help me or not?!"
As Malron's car approached the line of police cars blocking the road, a blinding light emanated from Seraphine's body. As Seraphine aimed her spear at the police cars in front of her, the position of the cars shifted, clearing the way for Malron.
Meanwhile, everyone who saw Seraphine's light could only close their eyes and groan at the sudden brightness of the phenomenon. Even Kieran closed his eyes.
When Malron's car escaped beyond the borders of Albuquerque, the demon breathed a sigh of relief. He felt like he had cursed Seraphine and made Malron feel guilty.
Should Malron say something to the angel?
"Hey, thank you, Seraphine," Malron murmured quietly.
"Be careful, Malron..."
Seraphine's wings flapped, and Malron could see her body rise like a small light and then pierce the sky.
"What just happened?" said Kieran in disbelief. "How did we manage to break through the police defenses? Isn't that going to cause trouble?"
Malron just nodded. "Yes, just relax."
"Lord, wasn't that help from the Creator?"
Malron took a long breath. Yes, maybe for this case, Malron admitted, Seraphine was made to serve the Creator. Maybe He wanted to show Malron that by sending Seraphine.
But still, that didn't make Malron want to be grateful; after all, it was Seraphine who had helped him.
"Yes, it was Seraphine," Malron replied casually.
"Seraphine? The angel Seraphine?" Kieran blinked in disbelief.
"Uh-huh." Malron nodded.
"Sir, what actually happened? I don't understand, after I met the High Priest, everything went haywire. Do you have any clues or do you know anything I need to know?"
"Kieran, the answers will be found later in Pennsylvania," Malron assured.
