That was when the first explosion went off.
Everyone froze. The sky caught everyone's attention. There was a loud thump overhead. People dove instinctively. Some screamed. Others covered their faces.
After a moment, a second blast went off nearby. Smoke billowed upward.
The sound of sirens filled the air.
"Run!" One of the boys yelled. "Get away from there! Get out of this place!"
"Go!" Another called. "Get out of the neighborhood before—"
Another explosion sounded. The street erupted with flames.
More explosions continued to ring out, each louder than the previous.
As if on cue, a large group of men dressed all in white rushed into the scene, carrying fire extinguishers and hoses.
"What happened?" Michelle cried.
Several of the children pointed upward.
"They've been bombing us!" A boy exclaimed.
"Who did that?" Michelle demanded. "Are we safe now?"
