Instead, he went to the bleachers. He climbed up to watch the game. He stayed there until the teacher arrived and told the kids to take their seats.
Once the lesson started, Allen became distracted again. A young man raced past him. He wore a pair of blue shorts and nothing else. Allen stared. He'd seen men wearing little clothes plenty of times before, but he still couldn't help feeling uncomfortable.
He turned away. When the class was over, Allen walked across the gymnasium. He noticed the girl again on the basketball court. She was good. Even though she missed most of her shots, she still scored well.
He approached her and asked if she wanted to run the ball around with him. "Sure."
She laughed when he passed her the ball. "Are you serious? You don't look very athletic."
"Neither does anybody else."
