Her phone rang. It was Jay calling.
"Hello?"
"Hi. I'm sorry to bother you at home. I hope you're feeling better today."
"Not really. I feel terrible."
"Oh well, maybe you'll feel better after you finish your coffee. I've got a question for you."
"Sure." How did he know she was making coffee? She brushed the thought aside.
"Do you remember how much money you won last night?"
"Yes. You lost three hundred dollars."
"Did you notice anything unusual about the way I played the last few rounds? Did I seem nervous?"
"No. Why are you asking me this?"
"Because I was wondering if you noticed that I kept throwing chips onto the table before you would bet."
"You were just trying to mess with me," she laughed.
He didn't laugh back. His voice sounded serious.
"I wasn't messing around. I actually had an ace in my hand."
"What! How could you possibly..."
