The woman started rummaging through his pockets, taking his wallet and other valuables.
He turned around. She was holding a small device, which she used to unlock one of the bags. Inside was a stack of notes and credit cards. She picked up the money and shoved it into her own jacket.
After she finished searching, she threw the bags aside. She bent down beside him. "You are a stupid kid, Jason. You really don't realize what you've done."
He didn't remember telling her his name, but he actually did understand what he'd done. He had killed the man, maybe. He had stolen from him. He had abandoned him to his fate.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
The bounty hunter shook her head sadly. "Sorry, that doesn't bring anyone back. Sorry, I won't stop your bleeding." She stood up and walked back to her partner.
