John and the others agreed, and everyone headed into the small karaoke room. As soon as they got inside, Kamen turned to Lily and explained the rules.
"We each pick one song. You must sing it alone. You cannot bring anyone else to help you. We want you to practice singing in front of an audience. It's a lot harder than you might expect. Now, no cheating. No, make sure that you pick songs that are easy to sing. Everyone gets the same chance."
They went through several rounds, and everyone sang their hearts out. Some people picked well-known popular music, while others chose obscure songs.
Lily found herself enjoying watching them all. One person after another stepped up to the microphone. Some did better than others, but none of them seemed to struggle too much.
When it came time for her turn, Lily took the stage and began singing. Her voice sounded great. Even when she stumbled on the words a couple times, she recovered smoothly.
